Re: European Youth Team Chess Championship 2015

Thanks, Roger and Jim, for the clarification earlier. I was curious simply to ascertain the ECF reaction to an independent initiative of this type. The parents and players deserve credit for putting it together (as others have observed, the results speak for themselves) and the ECF, about whom I'm n...

"I was under the impression that the team was arrange by the individuals themselves, and official backing was given after the case"

Odd if true - can anyone shed light on this?

Thanks, Ian and Roger. I think I'm right to be a little confused.

Re: MEMBERSHIP 2014/15: CLOSING DOWN

Has the facility for obtaining 2014-15 membership actually closed down? Checked ECF online facility earlier today and it still appeared to be offering 2014-15 (or 2014-17 three-yearly) membership rather than 2015-16.

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

LOL, of course, law 12.2b could reasonably be held to have some bearing on the original question of when it might be reasonable to award 1 1/2 points in respect of a single game. The arbiter should obviously take into account the circumstances of the game in question but to what extent does any requ...

JUNIOR 4NCL

Website still gives three weekend dates, the earliest being 3-4 October, at Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport but "the above venue is subject to contract". Anyone able to say whether hotel negotiations finalised yet and whether dates consequently definite?

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Thanks for the feedback, Stewart, and we'll await (albeit, not with bated breath) publication of the minutes.

Re: Simultaneous displays for juniors in Watford

As well as the Chris Duncan simul on 14 June mentioned above, there will be another by Jerry Rudge (ECF 187) at Watford Chess Club on Tuesday evening 9 June from 6.45 onwards. Interested juniors can enquire via contact@watfordchessclub.org.

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Update on this, pursuant to Stewart Reuben's post on 6 May. Sevan Muradian, Secretary to the FIDE Rules & Tournaments Regulations Commission, has now confirmed the matter is on the agenda for the June meeting in Armenia. Presumably it is on an imminent Arbiters Commission agenda also but I have no d...

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Yes, in summary you can retract an illegal move, even if you have released hold of the piece, at any time before pressing the clock (at which point the move is 'completed', unless it had already ended the game, for example by delivering checkmate) with the proviso that, if you can make a legal move ...

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Absolutely right, for reasons that just about everyone (except, seemingly, the ECF) understands, the key word should be "completed". Now, of course, if a second illegal move is made but not completed, ECF has created a problem for itself.

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Thanks, Stewart. In my opinion, you're 100% correct with your final sentence (the decision to approach the Ethics Commission was taken by an aggrieved parent without, as far as I can make out, taking prior advice) but the question is what, if anything, the parent should do now. Obviously I don't wan...

Simultaneous displays for juniors in Watford

Watford Chess Club plans several simultaneous displays for juniors over the coming months, with the first being undertaken by FM Venkataramanan Tiruchirapalli on Sunday evening, 17 May, and another by FM Chris Duncan on 14 June. Both of these, and probably others where details have yet to be finalis...

Re: 1 1/2 points per game

Anyone able to advise on my previous question which essentially was, can anyone advise what happens next when a FIDE Commission (in this case, the Ethics Commission) determines that a matter " ... should be referred for the attention of FIDE Arbiters Commission as well as the FIDE Rules & Tournament...

LOL, even though it might spread a little ray of sunshine, you'd have to be really keen to run in a penguin suit.
