David

If England win 4-0 are they likely to get one of Russia, China or USA in Round 2?

Re: Abolish Game Fee!

Maybe an easier/ alternative administrative system is to insist on at least Bronze membership but with rebates. If non-members play. in a representative team the body represented is liable A player might be able to claim a rebate at year end from ECF if less than 6 (say) rated games are played. Poss...

Re: ECF elections 2016

"Then sue us. I stand by everything i have said." I had hoped to avoid further escalation. I will now consider legal action. The account below was sent yesterday to Kevin Thurlow and John Upham who independently asked about the "unhappy event". "Cutting a long story short , having been given a bye a...

Re: ECF elections 2016

For the record, in an "ECF Elections 2016" thread, my view of events, included in Sean Hewitt's post of 10:22 , around his threat to disqualify me at Crawley and the subsequent discussion is very different from his .

i think some of his comments may be libelous and are untrue.

Re: Abolish Game Fee!

Brian The budgeted 14K is I think interesting and important. I guess some of the actual will come from leagues and club tournaments but even if it all comes from congresses it hardly justifies congress voting power in ECF elections. Doubtless you could balance the ECF budget without it? Give us a cl...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

After a very unhappy, disqualification threat related incident , at the e2e4 congress in Crawley last weekend, I have begun to question the voting power of tournaments in ECF elections. Can someone explain why , given we have moved to Platinum-Bronze membership from the old game fee system that tour...

Re: What constitutes meaningful consultation?

A word of caution on dealings with FIDE whose governance standards are not those of HMG. I believe that in the international context sitting in the same room can sometimes be enough under international law . Official Foreign Office advice some years ago , in the interval between the two Gulf Wars, o...

Kevin

I guess it would be politically incorrect to ask an arbiter, how the Brits are doing? Has anyone played an Anti-Moscow variation yet?

Best wishes

Re: Garry Kasparov's "Winter is Coming" (2015)

Thanks for the Edward Winter reference. Perhaps the final paragraph of his review should be recorded here: Nothing would induce us to comment on Kasparov's political beliefs or on how they are set out and backed up in his book. On the purely technical question of prose quality, we gladly observe Win...

Re: Garry Kasparov's "Winter is Coming" (2015)

Angus Thanks very much. ... BUT Sad there wasn't any chess in the discussion : on page 54 of Garry's book there is an analogy between real world , ideal (diplomatic) analysis with chess post game, "honest" analysis . "Honest" chess analysis is contrasted with game analysis that is solely focussed on...

Garry Kasparov's "Winter is Coming" (2015)

I have just spent a few hours struggling through the Introduction, Prologue and first three chapters of this difficult book about Putin and the decline of Russian democracy. IMHO Kasparov's great humanity and insight comes though . I am less sure about his attitudes to national sovereignty, flexible...
