Re: Random musing - scoresheet design

My "New In Chess" scorebooks do not have an opening field. I assume German scorebooks and scoresheets follow the Dutch ?! :) In a Bronowski match (Insurance v Banks,27/3/2017) played at Standard Chartered a small picture of the great man was included at the top of the scoresheet. i can't help wonder...

Re: July Grades

It is great that the definitive grading list has arrived.

Does anyone have a cunning plan to reduce late submission of games to the ECF grading team ? :)

Re: Motions: Regional Competitions

As a player born in Manchester who played junior chess in Merseyside and for Lancashire 40 years ago, I am amazed about these 21st century regional discussions. IMHO Going back to first principles, chess is basically an individual game. We play in representative club, league or regional teams for su...

Apologies for my ignorance as a simple LL player but why was this cunning plan needed?

Generational Best Players Never To Win British Championship

I was surprised to learn that Luke hasn't won the British yet. There may well be better formulations of this question but... Given the corresponding World Championship debates, who are the best British players of twenty year periods going back to 1917, who have not won the British? I suggest that Lu...

Maybe it depends on how you play: Chess for Tigers is good ! : Chess for Heffalumps ?

Re: British Championship 2017 Videos

At the end of this 3rd preview video is Andrew's announcement that this will be his final year commentating at the British, having done it first in 1988, and for the last 20 years consecutively. To say it will not be the same again would be an understatement - you will be missed Andrew. For twenty ...

Re: Double Fianchetto Bishops.

Double Fianchetto Bishops. I can’t think of a time I’ve done with this both bishops as I usually only want to do it when the bishop sits in front of my king for extra defence – or to get on with early development and aid castling.. Does anyone on here regularly put both bishops on the long diagonal...

As a junior player for Formby in the late 1960's and someone born in Manchester, I do hope Mersyside players can have dual citizenship especially when playing against the awesome Yorkshire Heffalumps!

"i do know that Lancashire will be putting a strong team out, ", John Reyes Assuming Lancashire Tigers are still typically/ on average outgraded by 10 points per board, I do hope all the Lancashire players remember to play like Tigers (maximising the probability of winning their game) rather than th...

Re: Hardinge-Simpole: Two unfamiliar titles

Roger Thanks very much for your post. It confirms to me what a loss the ECF library might be. (I am particularly interested in Fine's books on the psychology of chess players: my interest is in Tiger or Heffalump strategies before a move is made. A Tiger strategy involves trying to maximise the prob...

Maybe the partner abuse problem might be solved by a bridge variant where a carbon based life form player partnered a program ??
