The Grob. Bring it back

Anyone like the Grob opening? Found it to be a nice tactical opening with many traps especially against unsuspecting opponants who like to pawn grab. If it gets to tough I bail out in a queenside castle move. Would like to hear from anyone who uses it in classical games and league matches. Appreciat...

Does anyone play the Spanish opening exchange various 4. Bxc6?

Most likely at master level this is not the best reply to a6 as centuries of games and computer analysis has shown, but at club level is this move perfectly sound and can White expect a good game? Everyone knows to take back with the d pawn and that 5. Nxe5 is bad due to 5… Qe7, Qd5 or (my favourite...

What’s the longest you’ve played with 16 pawns still on the board?

A while ago I think I made a strategic mistake in a game which was played under the shorter of the 2 time controls we use. (70mins for 34 moves - + 15 mins) Game had been going a while and pieces had been exchanged but all 16 pawns were still on the board and there were no open files. Every time a p...

Double Fianchetto Bishops.

Double Fianchetto Bishops. I can’t think of a time I’ve done with this both bishops as I usually only want to do it when the bishop sits infront of my king for extra defence – or to get on with early development and aid castling.. Does anyone on here regularly put both bishops on the long diagonal a...

Re: 2017 Laws of Chess: FIDE Handbook discrepancy

In classical play no one will mind the 2 hand castling.

Re: 2017 Laws of Chess: FIDE Handbook discrepancy

Surely people won't be that bothered if someone castles using both hands? Castling is usually done in the non time pressure part of the game. Must be more important things to worry about than that.

Re: When your happy with your position and don’t want to move

I was a bit cagey in this game due to playing someone better than me and also wanted to play the reti in a match because previously I’ve had my king blown open – reti has a safer king for longer.

Still learning

Re: When your happy with your position and don’t want to move

I haven’t included the position because I was asking more generally and strategically as oppose to tactics. If there were tactics then I would be doing them and pieces would be moving and sparks would be flying. Tactics are sometimes a lot easier for weaker players such as myself as oppose to strate...
