Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

It's not clear that the proposal is in contravention to any specific clause in the company law act 2006? I generally regard it as a half truth; it seems to me the right of members to appoint proxies is clear https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/46/part/13/chapter/3/crossheading/proxies but the...

me too. Although if I'd known he was going to play a modern benoni I would have said something else. I think that counts as getting hit by Anand's long term second in the 3. f3 anti-Grunfeld/ Samisch move order which Anand helped make popular a few years ago. I think Mike Truran was the world's lead...

I have to admit I thought Informator had bought it and was considering getting a copy to see if I liked it.

That is a good result. A pity he got the downfloat so is not on a live board, although I think Stephen Gordon will be against the Russian veteran Raetsky

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

Part of the problem, of course, is defining your purpose. One of the issues is that these structures often are fit for the purpose of providing the existing members of the club/league with regular chess, but they aren't fit for the purpose of attracting and keeping new players. I think you'd expect...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

I think you can see conservatism on all sides, but the low taxation lobby are the more dangerous in my view. I would have no objection to being described as in that lobby. Not because I believe in low taxes in all contexts, but because I do not see much that the ECF can do to encourage a new adult ...

I edited the word conservative before Andrew replied because I thought it might cause confusion in the sense fiscal conservative.

I do not understand the relevance of Andrew's comments on Yorkshire chess.

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

Definitely true that the Board has a lot of other votes Alex, the voting register is a public document. I do not have an issue with that, and I do not think anyone else has raised it as an issue either. I only mentioned it to point out that it would be wrong to characterise the board as in dispute w...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

To frame this as a disagreement between Council and Board overlooks that the biggest block vote in Council is the Board members. There is no evidence to suggest this is a disagreement between traditionalists and innovators. It is a disagreement between those who want more centralisation, and higher ...

No. I beat Hikaru last time we played. Even super-GMs blunder whole rooks occasionally. I would be surprised if anyone thought that was a measure of our relative playing ability.

Well for internet blitz, chess.com is a good measure. Although generally I do not use that site due to the high instance of computer cheating.

For playing strength FIDE Elo is fine for established adult players.

Re: https://greatbritainjuniorsquad.com/official-partners/

Clearly Charlie does want to play that game... I generally consider Ian a bit stronger than me, since he retained a 2300 rating over a lot of games. A higher sustained peak. I don't think Charlies published rating has ever been over 2300. So saying he is an FM is technically true but a bit misleadin...
