Re: British Championship 2018

Roger is as ever disregarding my advice to pay the 1 Nf3 move order if you want to play the KIA.

I'd rather have white, since I don't really like de4 and e6-e5. But Kevin played into it quickly so I suppose he knows what he i doing.

Re: British Championship 2018

Jones-Fodor continuing bloodlessly and Pert-Howell already drawn. The two questions that come to mind are: What else is there to do in Hull this afternoon? and Why wasn't Mickey invited?

Re: British Championship 2018

surprising opening from Gawain today; I thought this was the line white played for a bloodless draw. I suppose we will see an idea

Re: British Championship 2018

I play too fast when I am tired. I did not realise just how consistently until I read a observation by Gelfand (I think, in one of his excellent recent books) and thought about the games I lost in league chess. I basically stop calculating and play 5 minute chess. Gelfand noted that inability to con...

I am unsure if I would have realised Fernandez embarrassing his queen without the engine telling me

Re: British Championship 2018

well, ...c4 is very thematic in the benoni and often as a sac. But usually with an immediate follow up putting pressure on the centre. I'm going to assume Gawain knows what sort of risks he is taking and is being super aggressive. Unless the relay turns out to be a Tal game from the 1950s of course.

Re: British Championship 2018

It's nice that, despite chess24 and chessbase moving coverage of the British into the 21st century, we are retaining some old traditions, such as not being entirely sure which game we are watching

Re: British Championship

I think Keith should back himself :-)

I'm slightly regretting not voting for Hawkins. I wouldn't consider him the favourite, but certainly a realistic enough chance someone should have voted for him.

Re: British Championship

Jovanka won I suppose, with Ke4 to indicate 1-0 rather than actually played

I'm resultant to join in the predictions game - too difficult to assess Adams' form.

Jonathan is now one point ahead of me  . We should definitely have frozen the 2017 grades.

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election? (Take 2)

In case it hasn’t been posted, Malcolm hasn’t exactly held back in this month’s “Chess” editorial https://www.chess.co.uk/downloads/chess-magazine-july-2018-sample.pdf Thanks for the link. I'm a bit sceptical if Makro will change his spots. Or, based on the comments about Jaime, whether Malcolm wil...

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

Zhu Chen does appear to be welcome at chinese events since her move to Qatar. So disowned seems a bit strong.

But I suppose Nick is making the point Dvorkovich may have limited support in Asia if no big name on his ticket.

That is a view. Not one I share.

I'm not in favour of omov although that seems off topic too.
