Re: Old Chestnut

How about changing the rules for drawn matches such that before board count is female count: the team with more female players wins a drawn match. If they have the same number of females then it is back to board count, etc. It is only a small change but there are quite a few drawn matches. And it c...

Re: Old Chestnut

I wonder if having a women only section of the championship with say just 8 boards to start with and a proper trophy might be better - obviously a fairly limited number of entries initially but could perhaps work. There are 73 women players graded over 130 according to the ECF grading data. Very fe...

Re: One Hundred years celebration

I've just been putting together our two teams for the quarter finals. Amongst the replies I've had several along the lines of "thanks for the invitation it's an honour to play for Devon and I'll be delighted to accept". No other competition is going to match that unless you are in with a shout of pl...

Re: Old Chestnut

I don’t really understand the point of the proposal, it would be interesting to know what the views of female players are (in the sense of indicating that there is a barrier to their participation in County chess that this proposal would remove). WhenAlex H brought such a proposal forward (along wi...

Re: Old Chestnut

I'd have thought any of the teams who might be competitive in the Open section could find a strong female player, but below that level it would just mean less teams entering.

Re: County Chess 2018-19

I guess at least you guys know they you have every chance of winning the national final with the strength of your sides, but most of the genuine minor counties are sick of cowardly open strength teams treating it as a plate event and winning year after year - the reason it is so hard to get captain...

As Surrey won the Minor for the first time ever can we defend our title if our open team qualify for national stages but our u180S/U160S do not.?
No. The Open and Minor are mutually exclusive.

Re: County Championship Finals

2019 will indeed be the 100th time a national county Championship has been contested. The previous 99 winners are: 29 Middlesex 22 Lancashire 13 Kent 08 Yorkshire 07 Surrey 06 Cambridgeshire 04 Essex 03 Greater Manchester 03 Warwickshire 02 Oxfordshire 01 Leicestershire 01 Staffordshire The nationa...

Re: County Championship sponsorship

Finally if the ECF were by some fluke chance to come into money for this event where should it go? The entry fee is quite small but the more successful you are in the competition the more expensive it becomes. Nottinghamshire will spend anything between £200 and £500 each season merely paying for v...

Re: County Championship sponsorship

I’m not sure why “prizes” should “reinvigorate” the County Championship, which is after all an amateur competition. At the level suggested they really don’t amount to much if split amongst a winning team, and if they were at a much higher level they would possibly just increase the inequality betwe...
