It is used internationally, referred to as the Berlin System.

Incidentally, I remember seeing at least one English competition being settled by reverse board count.

Re: Disputes with an Associations member or League member

Is there anything in the ECF Rules about this? because there a person i know who need some advice and i did not have the answer for him/her. He/She feel that a member of a association/league has victimised him personal and feel that he/she is being bullied/Prejudice and want some help? also has pro...

David Blower wrote:When should a junior start playing graded chess (i.e. going into the clubs teams to play league chess against other clubs.)
As soon as possible when they want to.

I wouldn't impose higher standards on juniors than on adult starters.

Re: Changing a league's grading limits

What exactly is the problem? How many teams have entered Division 1 this season? And you want to change that? Because? Look at the format of Division 2. It's so successful that the Chase Trophy was changed to the same grading limit (U550) with the result that, as intended, more teams entered the Ch...

Re: Changing a league's grading limits

Thanks for all the responses. The question of assuming grades to ungraded players is another thing as well. So I will basically ask are there any other aggregate grading leagues, and what assumed grades are given to ungraded players. Another thing as well as what? My Club - Sutton Coldfield - compe...

Re: Changing a league's grading limits

So the question is how do I go about doing this (please don't state that I put it forward as a proposal at an AGM, and then it gets voted upon.) What I mean is, do I need to do some sort of "election campaign" to make sure that people vote for my proposal. Something vital comes alongside that. You ...

Archery, for one. There is even such a thing as the World Correspondence Archery Tournament:

Not decided by "subjective judgement" either.

Re: Features of a chess website

Hello. The website of my province offers a chess calendar, listing all events to be held in the province over the whole year together with their dates. Do you think it is necessary to include it? Where else would someone expect to find the chess events of a province than on that province's chess we...

Re: Getting back lapsed members to the club

The main thing that frustrates me is when members join the club, seem enthusiastic for a couple of weeks and then vanish never to be heard from again, even in response to an email follow up. If the club has done something wrong at least you have the feedback as data. On two occasions an adult has v...

For new members most of the joiners came because of personal recommendation rather than what they had read. Some however just phone up on spec presumably having r...

Re: Getting back lapsed members to the club

The truth remains: if former members wanted you, then they would have found you already. I disagree. In Witney I used to make contact with lapsed members and ask why they left. if relevant, I then would explain why the club was now different eg more active club nights, more teams, better coaching a...

Re: Getting back lapsed members to the club

Keeping them on the email distribution list for news updates, match reports etc helps, but to be honest we haven't had many lapsed members return over the years, given that they usually lapse for a good reason (moving away from the area, family commitments etc). Lapsed members will reconnect with y...
