Re: Chess.Com getting sued.
Anybody remember this? Well, now Chess.com have picked on me. Why? I have, literally, not the slightest idea, not least because they do not say. I am really very angry about it. Do read about it, here . (And here , here , here and here .) All questions are welcomed. A pgn file is available on reque...

Re: 22th European Team Chess Championship 2019
Oh this actually starts tomorrow, not much rest for those who played IOM. Looking at the team lists there seem to be quite a few big names missing, could be as good a chance as England are going to get. Best of luck to those playing.

Re: European Schools Chess Championship 2019
Five coaches between twenty eight competitors does not strike me as an unreasonable ratio. That goes straight to the top of your five most ridiculous comments in this place The ratio of coaches to players is not, at this point, in question. It's the ratio of player performance to coach value-added ...

Re: Altibox Norway 2019 - the future of chess?
If the point of the Armageddon is to influence the chess in the main tournament *in a positive way* then they’ve got it back to front. What they should have done is have the Armageddon only after games with a decisive result, a second opportunity for any defeated player, if you like. Eg. Players dr...

Re: Cheating in chess
There's no real point in redacting a name when it's patently obvious who it is from the publicly available information. Unless there are legal reasons I'm not at all sure I agree that they shouldn't be named in any case. Surely damage to reputation is a rather deserved consequence of cheating(and p...

Here's another one. Ethics Commission has delivered a light punishment to a Russian GM who has made unsubstantiated accusations on the Internet against a young female player. He has received support from a group of GMs - mostly from Eastern Europe, of course, but it is disappointing to see Jacob Aa...

I agree that over centralisation, huge budgets along with poor accountablity inevitably leads to corruption and poor value. I'm not sure how this applies to the ECF but you make a strong case for Brexit.

I'm guessing this report doesn't carry much scientific weight.

Re: Using a computer in correspondence chess
It's all just cheating. I don't understand such comments at all. How can it be cheating to use a computer in tournaments where use of a computer is specifically permitted? You might as well say that cycling is cheating because you're enhancing your performance by using a bicycle. If you play chess ...

Re: World Youth Chess Championship 2015
Looking at the game in my view it was full of inaccuracies; Akshaya was clearly better in the early middle game then drifted into a worse position where Black horribly blundered into the lost position, then Akshaya missed numerous chances to finish it off a lot earlier, then came the final error le...
