FIDE have a history of periodic stupidity in their rule making. Anyone for defaulting players who are 10 seconds late?David Fowler wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 7:55 pmI'm very sorry to say. It doesn't help that some competitions seem determined to deviate from the simple expedient of following FIDE, thereby further complicating matters.

Re: Cheating in chess
I played a match this month where a phone kept going off. Despite everyone in the room being put off no-one did anything about it. At the point where the phone was found suddenly the bloke closest to it announced it was his and silenced it Thesse are the Berkshire rules which date from some years a...

Re: Cheating in chess
In one fixture this season, an opposition player used his phone to check his opponents grade, a second remained sat at the board inputting a finished game into phone and a third left a phone ringing in his bag. And in another match one player put his phone on silent and picked it up to read a messa...

I lift the following directly from one league's website: "A Dispute was referred to the Committee in relation to a league match where it was claimed that a mobile phone had been switched on during the game. The Committee found that there was insufficient evidence to prove either that the phone was ...

The FIDE announcement describes it as "Honoury Grandmaster".Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:06 pmIs that actually an official FIDE posthumous title? There are conflicting results on this.

Re: Cheating in chess
How did chess survive for 150 years before the first time control and adjournments without digital clocks. Nornal practice was to continue the game until one flag fell if neither player was scoring. The players then moved to another board and reconstructed to prove how many moves had been played. I...

There's perhaps also a question as to what counts as a "club". Would 4NCL squads qualify.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:36 pmPardon my curiosity but why does the Board believe that "the democratic reach" of Council will be expanded by admitting larger clubs?

He was always going on about the poor ethical standards of chess and chess players and their incorrect language.
One of the earlier examples was complaining about the use of the term "Ladies Prize" that it was sexist and shouldn't be used.

Re: 4NCL 2023-24 Division Four
Surely this clash could have been avoided. Blackpool used to be mid-March and in 2020 was on the final weekend before the shutdown. 4NCL has been on or about Valentine's day for many years. So it's Blackpool who have moved. In fairness though, "southern" events are likely to be more on the radar fo...

How exactly were players allocated to a section in the absence of any rating system? Apart from players self selecting where they thought their ability would place them there would be an organising committee to take such decisions. As well as relying on reputations, they had previous tournament res...

Re: ECF ratings.
The questions I am looking for answers to are: You need to work through the "rating audit" https://www.ecfrating.org.uk/v2/new/robo_audit.php?player_no=155285&year=2024&month=1&domain=S You aren't treated as a completely new player, rather you are deemed to have drawn with someone of your old ratin...
