Re: British Championship 2018

Zapolskis - Young Well done to Daniel Young (again!). But what absolute dreck from Zapolskis  Was trying to find reasons for the poor moves, but yeah, not great play at all. Amazing that Daniel Young has reached 50% and with 2.5/3 against IMs. Maybe he will get a pairing against a GM in the ...

Re: British Championship 2018

Prescient. I was wondering about the delay. Draw agreed.

I'm backing the big guys to make 4/4.
Jones and McShane have won, but Adams and Howell may only draw. That will still leave Adams a half point ahead of a group of three on six points, and still favourite for the title.

Re: British Championship 2018

Indeed. Though that would only seem to draw, it does seem that Adams missed this and his advantage will have gone. (Black's attack actually looks very scary.)

Re: British Championship 2018

Adams making progress Winning now. But I'm baffled by Gawain's 31 Bc7 & 32 Bb6 choice - it simply loses a pawn, whereas Be5 (say) leaves things flat Having played through the game now, that was the turning point. To be fair to Gawain, that Be5 line (with black playing 31...g6) is quite long and sti...

Re: British Championship 2018

People seem to have stopped discussing the main title prospects for some reason. Adams does look certain to win again. He had an enormous slice of luck against Fodor (who has been playing well apart from that). How well has Adams played in the other games? Has he recovered his form? Did he play well...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London?

It used to be the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design until they moved to Kings Cross in about 2011. Maybe you remember it under that name?

Re: British Championship 2018

Would a draw in Jones-Adams suit both players or only one of them (and which one)? It is looking more likely that the winning score will be around 6.5/9. Which of the players on 4.5 are best placed to mount a challenge (in terms of who has played who)? One of my tips is still in there (Eggleston). E...

Re: British Championship 2018

Kevin (Thurlow) off the mark with a draw. Jack (Rudd)'s position slipping against the junior Ranesh Ratnesan.

Or this one?

Great collection of photos (was sorry to miss this event, but hopefully it will be the first of many).

This photo is suitable for a caption competition (look at the move played):

Re: British Championship 2018

Three games showing on Chessbomb as what look like defaulted games (no time elapsed on either clock): McDougall-De Coverly 1-0 Muir-Young 0-1 Pollack-McMichael 1-0 Anyone know what happened there? EDIT: False alarm. All three games in progress on chess24.com's display, so clearly a Chessbomb glitch.

Transmission errors? Analysis after the game finished? Or did Carlsen really blunder?

EDIT: It was a gross blunder. He thought there was a mate, presumably.

Meanwhile Jack beats Roger to get back to 50%
Lots of mistakes in Ratnesan-Thurlow (both players presumably missing the tactic involving f5 and a later Qg4+). Reminds me to be careful if I ever play on a live board again...
