Re: Batumi Olympiad

Sadly there are obvious perpetuals for Nepo. He will take one of them, probably.

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Glimmer of hope in Luke's game!

Lots of perpetuals. Hope there is a mate there somewhere that Nepo can stumble into... :!:

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Ah, I forgot France would join that score group. There will probably be five teams on 15 points (Armenia, England, Germany, India, Kazakhstan), three on 16 points (Poland, France, Russia), and two on 17 points (USA and China).

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Yeah, McShane is trying for a win given the match situation. He could have sat there and held a draw.

France are beating Croatia, surely?

Re: Batumi Olympiad

How are ENGLAND TIGERS doing against RUSSIA HEFFALUMPS? Badly. Jones drew on board 4. Adams will draw against Karjakin. McShane is an exchange up, but can't make progress. Kramnik is an exchange up and winning against Howell. The other two critical matches have finished with decisive results: China...

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Three of the games appear to be petering out to draws. Kramnik appears to be the player most likely to win. Maybe Howell's time trouble will unsettle him and he will gift us a win...

Re: Batumi Olympiad

What looks like another Israel vs Arab country default. ICCD (with Israel player Yehuda Gruenfeld on board one) were paired with Lebanon and the board one result is showing as a default 1-0 win for ICCD.

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Not for the first time, Roger beat me to it There are category prizes for lower ranked teams Lewis Martin is on the CM list And now there are lists for various norms (not yet populated, but maybe soon) and a list for Fide Master titles (I assume these are direct titles earned at a tournament or com...

Re: Batumi Olympiad

So what are the pairing rules? It should be easy to work out, surely? Of the four teams on 15 points, one is upfloated to play Poland, two play each other, and one is downfloated to play Russia or Croatia. I assume England can't be downfloated again?

Re: Batumi Olympiad

If Duda holds (he should), then wins for Poland, China, Armenia and England (France and Germany drew). That would leave Poland on 16 points, and USA, China, Armenia and England on 15 points. Poland have played USA and Armenia, so will have to play either China or England. One of the teams on 15 poin...

Chess 24 says Mickey has lost, which seems unlikely. Elsewhere they have an obviously drawn position given as a win. It is confusing.
Horrendous blunder on move 63 by Duda against Caruana.
Though maybe it is the engine mis-evaluating a drawn RB vs R endgame?
