Re: Women's Candidates matches

First game drawn, Muzychuk White, no obvious chances missed.

And the second.

The third drawn after a real drama with Anna missing multiple opportunities to win.

Re: Carlsen resigns on move 2

For legal reasons all are careful with their wording though, or don't say anything at all. If they're not saying anything at all then their opinions can't really be taken into account, and I don't just mean legally. I was referring to those who haven't spoken publicly at all about this business, eg...

Re: Carlsen resigns on move 2

If I was on a jury I would remember the case of Sally Clark, who was convicted of murder after the cot death of her two babies. There was no physical evidence, and the prosecution case relied pretty much entirely on the opinion of an expert witness. It took two appeals, and the eventual exposure of...

Re: Women's Candidates matches

Game 3 today, will be interesting to see how the sisters handle it It has been: they both opted for the kind of variations where you exchaneg the queens in return for having a horrid-looking position and while Anna's been comfortable enough against Humpy [EDIT: agreed drawn shortly after posting] M...

Re: Media comments on chess

For some reason El País in English has a piece today about decision-making which cites somebody called Adriana Hernández, who, in a book called The Game of Life, apparently quotes (or very slightly mis-quotes ) Frank Marshall as saying a bad plan is better than no plan at all. It also says of Marsha...

2x2 pawn squares

During a blitz game on lichess today the following position arose (I had the black pieces) with an unusual pawn formation. https://i.postimg.cc/kXLLt9Rr/Chess-testudo.png I don't think I've ever had this in my games before, though I've seen it, and even once made an apparently unsuccessful attempt t...

Re: Women's Candidates matches

Mariya v Lei a solid draw today but Humpy missed a chance to beat Anna. Both twins up against it on Friday (rest today tomorrow) as a loss would see them eliminated.

Re: Pedro Almodóvar

Claim to fame: we once pulled up outside a cafe/restaurant next to a petrol station below Medinaceli, just off the Zaragoza-Madrid motorway, and Leonor Watling from that movie was outside having a fag.
