Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

The London Chess Classic is a festival for all. Not just elite GM. Plenty of choices & some great work with the young too.

Combine it with a Christmas break with all that is great in this part of the world.

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

I think say once every 20 years in London would be fair. Then again I work in London in an environment where we have a big issue workwise in funding for education. Current & future proposals are likely to distribute too much up north per pupil than they need at expense of country. Either way each ye...

Re: County Championship Finals

Thanks Phil. It may have to wait until I retire from work. Ankle quite swollen from too big a step from new trains to the platform. Where I really will like to be is able to get all the tables and chairs up for matches rather than just volunteer for making tea & coffee. At 55 I'm quite young in term...

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

So it looks like after 70 years we still cannot agree what we want from a British chess championship compared to another large congress. Basically having a championship organised with sections of 32 will minimise mismatches. Ought to increase norm chances. Will probably have the same result for the ...

Re: Cheating in chess

I was bemused by Maradona's comments about Neymar's
diving. The biggest cheater ever in football was obviously upset that argentina were not able to cheat their way through 2018!

Re: Equitable distribution of team strengths within leagues

Taking the World Cup analogy both England and Belgium are fielding their 2nd XI. Trying the swiss gambit to get an easier set of opponents to win the whole tournament.

Re: County Championship Finals

Having retired from playing Saturday district league football at 52 I was going to play more chess at the weekends. Unfortunately stopping training and becoming more sedentary has not helped in dealing with my diabetes. in my 40s playing football in the morning I was playing County games in the afte...

Re: Equitable distribution of team strengths within leagues

We have entered a summer league at Battersea too. Playing stronger players whether bottom of division 1 or top of division 2 has been different and best for not playing all the same opponents. even playing in the County teams U180 and U160 I have played opponents not expected. For example a player g...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

As long as the best candidate for the job has been selected that is fine by me. There is a long thread on this and that may be one of the things that is wrong with English Chess. I remember the commotion at my school when the first female teacher ever (400 years) was appointed. we recognise diversit...

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

If the bottom grading prize was U2200 £250 it would not cost the organisers any extra funds.

I'm happy with a premium extra charge for low rated players even if they are under-rated..

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

Sorry Roger but i'm with ECF & London Chess Classic on charging policy.
And it is really about time for a London Championship. Not that ECF are likely to ever go for that.

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

Going back to the original post I do not understand why some one who qualifies for the English Championship moans about 300 pounds to enter because of their low rating when clearly stated in the conditions of entry. Anyway I'm hoping Kevin causes a few upsets. A legend in playing. Best wishes for al...
