Re: Proposals for future D1/2 formats

Would a problem be and 8 board Div 3 without constraints, if a team was promoted a settled team would then have to drop a player for the junior/female, unless they already had one within their team, that is why I suggested the 7 board format, so the only extra player you would have to find if promo...

Re: Proposals for future D1/2 formats

I really like the idea of a new division 3 without the constraints of a forced female/junior. If conditions put in then I'd welcome the addition of 'seniors'. For me 8 boards would be the way forward. The fact that it's 2 boards up from div 4 will be the noticeable step up, whilst not needing a fema...

Re: Not a dispute

Assuming there was not one arbiter per 3 games then according to the Laws a flag only falls when it is spotted by the players. Therefore scenarios a and b are the same and the ilegal move was played before the flag fell. 2 min penalty and game continues. Touch move rule applies. Wow, I was right!

Re: Not a dispute

obviously I know nothing about the rules but I'd say, as white didn't claim the win on time before he moved black should be given 2 minutes in which to win the game from the easily won position.

Sidelines to Mainlines

Why is it that most books/dvds nowadays start with several chapters of sidelines before hitting the mainline theory? By the time I've committed to memory a whole bunch of lines that I will rarely face I have very little energy left for studying the more critical stuff. Is there a reason why authors ...

I'd rather spend the day in motorway traffic than watch that crap.

Re: Drunken Knights v Wood Green

I fail to see the appeal of paying for a team (group of individuals) to win a league. Each to their own!

Re: The 40 point Rule

Isn't somebody performing over 10 points above their current grade always affected by the 40 point rule, as I have pointed out. It is not a major problem as it used to be due to the recalculation of ECF grades, but is a problem which I think we are stuck with unless the grading system is totally co...

Re: What do people here do?

I'm a Tax Man... HMRC. What does that actually involve? Do people give you a lot of stick for it? I assist the public with their tax issues/questions/concerns. I generally get a little stick from friends or people who meet me for the first time, but when I'm in the job 90% of the public are quite p...

Re: Secrets of Chess Transformations?

As a French player tired of exchanges, I'm looking for summat else. Is the Sicilian Kan similarish? (structurally speaking) whilst affording a bit of counterplay. Or are they not really related? Basically I'm looking for something where my French knowledge will still be useful, so as not to throw t...

Re: Are Opens a little too open?

I agree. The open is really for those who are too highly rated for the major. I certainly don’t enjoy travelling to events, paying for an overnight stay and an entry fee to play/beat somebody who's lower rated than a player I'd face in my local league. I think organisers should use a little common...
