Re: 4NCL Northern League - the future...your support

Thanks Mick, I have not actually met Nick Hawkins, but played at Aigburth a couple of weeks ago and met Roger Williamson, I asked if I could contact him regards 4NCL, he quite happily agreed, so I will be contacting him soon.

Re: rules question: when Black arrives late

Paolo, this has got to be wrong if not archaic, I've never heard of this rule. My understanding is White can only start Blacks clock once White has played a move on the board, not in their head or sealed or otherwise. I would be interested to know the rule that White refers to?

Re: How sad

Channel 5 are showing a documentary this coming Tuesday 21st February 2012 10 pm. on the life of Whitney Houston. Peter, that is Channel 5* , what seems like the Channel 5 American version, if you receive it? I will most probably be playing an endgame at my club that night, so will miss it unless i...

Stewart I am curious to know the match result of the aforementioned simul, but for the purpose of this thread I must exclude simuls.

Re: Winning, Losing or Drawing streaks

Claude Bloodgood is an obvious candidate for someone who might have had an extremely long winning streak of rated games. Hmm... not sure about Bloodgood Ian, whilst exposing the flaw in the USCF grading system may have been a good for chess, it doesn't quite balance with matricide, and there was su...

Re: Time taken for follow up win

It was not an outright win, but when I came joint 2nd in the Kidlington U-145 two weeks ago, it was the first time I'd won any prize in a standard play chess tournament since I was 13 years old, a gap of about 32 years. Andrew, once you attain that first place, the "follow up win" title will be you...

Re: Birth year of chess players

I guess all adult members could enter their birth date as the 1st January and the year born, whilst Juniors could enter their term start date, and only an unlucky few would then have sleepless nights about being hacked!!
Sorry John.

Re: Time taken for follow up win

Andrew Whitelley, British Champion (U21) at Hastings 1965 and then winning the Senior's Congress a few years ago must be some kind of record? Chris, it is certainly a long time between those two events, 45 years, but I would guess that this was not Andrews "follow up win" as the thread mentions, th...

Re: Winning, Losing or Drawing streaks

Assuming you have encounters where you have a 50% chance of winning, then winning 16 more in a row is 2 the power of 16 against. 2 to the power of 10 = 1024. 2 the power of 16 = 65,000/1 approximately. Interesting Stewart, would you care to take my proverbial £1 wager? Jonathan Mestel won his firs...
