I had a quick look but I could not see the option to play someone without registering. Chesscube/chesshere etc all need registering. I was thinking of a site along the lines of http://lichess.org/ but it (lichess) doesn't seem to work in IE8

Free site that allows me to play someone online

Hi guys,

Anyone know a free chess site that allows me to play someone online without registering to the likes of ICC/Playchess/Gameknot etc?

For example I go to www.xyz.com and a link is available to that I just give a friend xyz.com/link and then he just clicks and joins me in the game?

Re: Sleeping properly after a game?

Wish you a speedy recovery John, see what the doc has to say. I know people who train in active sports do benefit from supplementing with ZMA (Zinc, Magnesium, vitamin B6). From tests done on NFL players, results showed that over 70% of the football players were either depleted or deficient in both ...

Chess players and fitness

On yahoo there is an article about symptoms of a heart attack . Do chess players have to or need to focus on fitness (not just for chess) but a healthy heart and avoid cholesterol, high blood pressure issues etc? Chess is a sport or a hobby (dependent on what definition you look at) but should one j...

Re: Adam Hunt Evening

He won all his games Joey, we are not very strong at Lowestoft, it was a advertising program to attract new members, but it backfired in that sense. The members had a good night though. Think the highest grade was 147, so not too difficult for him. Glad to hear you had a good event. Perhaps holding...

Re: Rookie question

Sorry for asking what is probably a silly question. We all have to learn at some point. I haven't got the latest and greatest Fritz but I would make a new database called "test.cbh" and then import games from a "test.pgn" file to the "test.cbh". Don't try importing or any other operation into a liv...

FIDE statement concerning the Candidates Matches 2011

FIDE respects that every player makes his own decisions and regrets that GM Magnus Carlsen has expressed his desire to withdraw from the upcoming Candidates Matches. It is always a big loss for any event when a player of Magnus Carlsen's strength is not participating. FIDE's policy is to review reg...

Re: Local Chess to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

This is an old post but Jamie did you find a club? Google "chessmates Northampton" its only 8 miles or so away from you. The friendliest club in Northampton and with 3 or 4 teams in the leagues.

Re: Marking Scoresheets

I agree with your opinion on 2. and 3. I would definitely consider 1. to be acceptable. In fact I think it's pretty much standard practice. As an arbiter, I find it helpful when a player does this. It tells me when I need to be in close attendance to deal with a possible claim. If and when the clai...

Hi Warren, I was not accusing you of accusing anyone of anything, I actually read the rules and I copied and pasted from the handbook. It helped me as well.

Re: Marking Scoresheets

I've had a look at the FIDE handbook and it states the following :- It is forbidden to write the moves in advance, unless the player is claiming a draw according to Article 9.2, or 9.3 or adjourning a game according to the Guidelines of Adjourned Games point 1.a. 12.4 The scoresheet shall be used on...

Re: Getting back to playing chess

I am in the same boat, have a grade of about 110 from 1996. Started playing again, drew against a 132 last game of 2009 season, drew against a 136 first game of new season, played Norfolk Championship and beat a 141, 126, 140, drew against 141 and lost to a 148. Have since played two games in Leagu...

Re: ECF AGM delegates

That makes things clearer, thanks. I had forgotten that some congresses (Paignton as well, I think) are run by committees. Looking again at the list of voting units, it is interesting the range of organisations affiliated to the ECF (or at least those with voting rights). Among the more obscure vot...

Re: Getting back to playing chess

Thanks guys for the info, it was standard chess not rapidplay. So if the earliest I can expect to see my published standard rating is next July, then will I continue to count as an ungraded player in league matches, standard tournaments I enter and so on?
