There are likely to be some...

Re: County Chess: ECF Policy of Fines

I am currently making ECF nominations to teams competing in the SCCU County Championships.

It is disappointing the number of teams refusing their nomination and citing the ECF fines that they received last season as the reason for their reluctance to participate this season.

County Chess: ECF Policy of Fines

As the Union competitions draw to a conclusion and the time arrives to nominate teams for the ECF County Championships, I am hearing rumblings of discontent regarding the inflexible manner in which fines are being levied by the ECF for county that default boards regardless of whether or not the defa...

Re: What are the safeguards ?

What checks, balances and safeguards in place to mitigate the chances of someone (a Club Secretary for example) submitting results of so-called internal club games that either did not take place or did not take place under ECF match conditions ? Integrity of graders. A visible record of all results...

When are the new January grades due out ?
Registered ECF graders have until 14th January to submit all games played up to 31st December 2018.

Judging from previous years, it could then take another two weeks to process them, do the checks and publish the January list.

Re: Need some help of what to do?

Unfortunately, raising the dispute that you have with your local chess association on a public forum is likely to make attempts at conciliation and resolution rather more difficult than they need be. All organisations should have a constitution which specifies how the organisation is governed and ho...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

The proposal for monthly ECF grading is raised in the Membership Director's report (item 9a): 1. Budget is unknown, 2. Timescale for implementation is tight (to be ready for 2019-2020 season), 3. Technical approach (Clarke or Elo) is unspecified, 4. A potential partner is UK Chess Challenge (who app...

Re: ECF Grading Database

My post was intended to highlight the different responses of organisations to the same legislation and not to criticise either of them. If an organisation wants to remove age and gender information from public view but still make it available to registered organisers of events it could be done throu...

Re: ECF Grading Database

FIDE who are also subject to (European) GDPR continues to publish the birth year of all players, with the exception of the few players who registered before FIDE started to collect that information. Will the ECF withhold the names of participants in age restricted competitions (such as the British C...

Re: Alternatives to Filezilla

On the websites I constructed using Joomla! CMS I find that the 'Profiles' plugin (by Mad4Media) works fine.

I don't recall having had any difficulties with Filezilla on the few occasions that I used it.

Re: Incorrect clock settings

I've checked out this query on my DGT 2010. Setting Clock Mode When setting the clock, it is quite a significant error in mistaking 'delay' for ''Fischer increments' as they are associated with different clock programs (i.e. modes). The mode number appears in the display when the clock is turned on ...

Re: Incorrect clock settings

Stop the clocks and call the Arbiter.

With DGT 2010 clocks, the display changes at the point when the time falls below 20 minutes - instead of hours and minutes it shows minutes and seconds. At this point the players have the opportunity to notice that the expected increment is missing.
