Re: Events Director OTB chess

How does this new role integrate with the pre-existing Director of Home Chess remit?

What does this leave for the Director of Home Chess?

Re: Best Wishes GM Dr. Jonathan Mestel (13-iii-1957)

What happened to the account of the 'infamous "Brenda O'Randall incident" ' - vaguely remember it but don't see it in John Upham's piece. Originally it was there. I was then informed of some follow-up incidents of unpleasantness and defamatory T-shirts that I had forgotten about. I decided to remov...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

She dismissed it, saying there was more risk travelling on the underground. That sets the bar very low. I'm sure we all understand that travelling on the Northern Line during rush hours is the best way of spreading germs ever devised by mankind. Having used the City Line whilst working as an IT con...

West London Chess Club Gazette

The West London Chess Club web site has a useful History section listing, amongst other items, its publication "Gazette" Sadly all the Gazettes are afflicted with the dreaded http 404 error message. Luckily all of these may be retrieved via the rather useful WayBack machine. Anyone in this place fro...

Problems / Studies of Sir Stuart Milner-Barry

I'm aware that Sir Stuart Milner-Barry composed a few studies / problems in his very early chess life (probably in the 1920s).

I'm struggling to find any!

I'm aware of one or two appearing in Dragon Magazine but don't have any copies.

Can you help please?

Thanks!

Greetings Neville!

Strangely enough I saw you recently on a re-run of a well-known quiz show :

I should have thought more about this question before asking.

It is a British surreal comedy show.

Probably too easy now...

oh my, Jaws 3-D was bad enough let alone Jaws 5.
Which excellent TV series claimed by implication that it was in 4D? ( not Doctor Who)

Jaws was a scary guy.
One thing that disappointed me (amongst many) was that Stephen Spielberg did not cast Richard Kiel in

Jaws 5 : Jaws vs Jaws (The Biting Has To Stop)

a potential remake of Kramer vs Kramer.

The Critical Period of Cambridge Chess

Whilst researching Stuart Milner-Barry I learnt that he played hundreds of friendly serious games with Bertram Goulding Brown. Allegedly BGB wrote a book entitled (according to Google Books) The Critical Period of Cambridge Chess published in 1917. and he collaborated with HJR Murray. Does anyone ha...

Re: Remembering Gerald Abrahams (15-iv-1907 15-iii-1980)

Thanks, John. I've added my bits - hope readers find something of interest there. I don't bother about typos and things these days unless they're really gross. Plenty of other folk around who like to point out that sort of stuff. Many thanks for your comments. I will integrate these with the existi...
