Re: Brexit in practise

Purchased 10 chess clocks yesterday, price quoted was £280, with discount. Similar purchases in February and June cost £235. Reason given: Brexit. Good to buy now anyway. Next spring it will be even worse after article 50. But do not worry, shortly afterwards there will be a flurry of British start...

Re: EU referendum aftermath

It will be very interesting to see who is joining Trump's cabinet. Of all the rumors, I find it particularly interesting who is suggested as Secretary of the Treasury with the president elected by working/middle class folks angry at the effects of globalization. Of all people you'd think that a for...

Re: World Championship Final Round Predictions

I predict a surprise opening novelty from Karjakin to win the match!
After all, he supposedly had plenty of money and people to help his opening preparation, he must have some secret weapons available.

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Minor curiosity: it seems that Karjakin will gain Elo rating points at the end of the match, even if losing the last two games. Similarly Carlsen will certainly lose Elo rating points, unless I missed some fine print in the rules.

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

This is really boring. Seriously? I found the game really gripping. Have enjoyed the whole match too. I agree, the match is not boring at all. Some games are more intense than other but the chess24 commentators always make do with the game at hand for an entertaining display. If you think any of th...

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Do you really think the US would place on the sanctions list someone whose wrongdoing is based on no other evidence than "some press cuttings"? Yes I do, particularly if, as it appears, they are saying that themselves. If the only evidence supporting your last statement is the press conference of K...

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Yeah, right. :-) Sorry, are you making some point? Just replying with the same tone you used to my comment about the US government following their own due process with sanctions and wondering if Kirsan really tried to board that plane or he just went to the airport after making sure he would not be...

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Presumably Krsan's non-appearance in New York means that he is, in fact, banned from travel to the USA. Yes, that, or he might be afraid he might not be allowed to leave from the USA once there... endless speculation is possible in all directions... We know he tried to board a plane to the US once ...

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

US Treasury 25.11.2015 press release and designation Thanks but I would not read that info exactly as "the US Treasury have admitted that they have only some press cuttings as evidence". It appears that the accused in such cases has the right to see the evidence against him. Kirsan said at the Baku...

Re: am I the only person who hates Armageddon Chess?

Leave a title vacant?????????????????? You CAN'T be serious, man! On second thought, leaving the title vacant solves the problem at the WC final but it would not set a proper policy for the qualification rounds: if there's no outright winner then you really can't have no challenger. Looking at hist...

Re: am I the only person who hates Armageddon Chess?

What about leaving the title vacant with both players having to join the crowd at the candidates for another shot at the title?
I believe that in boxing for example, it's not unusual for a world title to be vacant.

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

They are being bold when they refer to Kirsan's ties to the Central bank of Syria without the customary "alleged". He strenuously denies this and the US Treasury have admitted that they have only some press cuttings as evidence. Any link to US Treasury statements confirming this? I would not have t...
