Re: Liverpool Englsh Rapidplay Congress now open for registrations

Not strictly - you could play in a FIDE rated blitz, where there are currently no membership requirements. If only that were true. Chess Scotland requested the allocation of a FIDE Identification Number to an Englishman resident in Scotland but were refused because he was not a member of the ECF. C...

I would charge a reasonab...

Re: Motions

If I turn out for a club in my local league, then it is accepted by other clubs that I am eligible to play for that club. As long as I only represent one club in one league, nobody appeals, or checks my eligibility - it is a matter for the club I represent. That is trust. Why should it be any differ...

Re: Motions

In the name surely :) Not exactly - I represent a county that doesn't actually exist! Which is that Adam? Middlesex. My point is that people could still turn up on a Saturday and play chess for Surrey against Middlesex or Greater Manchester, without any eligibility rules. It wouldn't make anyone mo...

Just for me, can someone point to a statement that defines the actual purpose of the counties championships?

Re: Motions

Agreed. I can certainly see the potentially demotivating effect of a very strong club repeatedly winning a competition... However, if the problem is having strong teams, then what is the point of competition? You need to motivate all the other teams to raise their game by some creative means, not by...

There is no "Swiss Manager pairing system"! Do you mean the Swiss System or has the draw been created manually?

Re: The DeMontford Bell Kings Place Chess Festival

The problem with most of the venues that I use is that they are too small to sustain an extra section. If I could find a venue in London that would accommodate 200 players in comfort and at a practical cost, I would certainly organise rapid play tournaments in five or more sections Incidentally, a l...

Re: Kings Place Chess Festival Saturday 8th July

ON THAT NOTE - NEXT YEAR’S DATE - is Saturday 7th July 2018 - stick that in your diary! Which is likely to be County Championships Finals day, as it is the first Saturday in July, unless varied by the Director of Home Chess. I had contacted said Director about that before I read this thread. I anti...
