Re: Colour split in league matches

I'm about 85% on coin flips this season at chess matches. I cannot see what is wrong with tossing a coin - plenty of starts to contests that have it. Sorry but if any other way plenty of players like to play home & not away. Even seen it in a note for why a team is not playing in a particular league...

Re: New Year Honours List

If these activities can be bothered to write & canvass & recommend then perhaps the ECF & others should also do so regularly.

Anyway congratulations, Mike & see you next w/e @ 4NCL.

Today's Sunday Telegraph & searching for crashed aeroplanes... Takes back to Bob Mitchell searching for bodies 35 years ago on Antarctica. Bob was a policeman & chess player from New Zealand & retired to Britain in Kent a few years ago. Anyway Bob used the international Chess Correspondence system o...

Geoff: The Musical To have a top musical you will need to get your No.1 hit singles in early. Take a tip from Tim Rice & get the 2 Bs from ABBA on board. Even Madonna has done so (the Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! a man after midnight riff) & even here she rips off the John Travolta/Bee Gee strut from Stayin...

Peter. Try Metropolitan & CCF. May have something. Occasionally club secretaries get an e-mail about a former player wanting to play. Or via SCCA.

Was playing Surrey Congress in 2012.

Re: Media comments on chess

On BBC missing out on Short v Kasparov very short memory. They lost the TV rights. Channel 4 & a rather young Carol Vorderman & live coverage of whole match. GMs commentary.

The only thing very similar to this was Test Match Special on cricket on radio for hours on hours.

Re: Suitable defence for average club player against 1. d4?

"Another thing to remember with the Benko is that club players will often decline it (often with "non book" moves like 4 b3 and 4 e3)" and a lot of people decline it on move 3 with Nf3 or dxc5 e.g., not that either move worries black. As for the average club player (moi) against an above average pl...

Re: Suitable defence for average club player against 1. d4?

Other than Indian defence complexes (various), fiancetto's or those with Bb4, Queens Gambit Accepted or not, benoni/benkos & systems where white plays a different move than 2c4 I think you will find that covers a lot of responses. Look at your overall structures & what type of positions you play wel...

Stewart - 5 of the numbers were made into a video version. This included 'The Arbiter's Song'. The board was around the wrong way. The video was 'Chess Moves' & the board error more than compensated for by the brilliant dancing & singing. Obviously the arbiter character was inspired by yourself. As ...

Re: 4NCL North 2014-15

Those of us playing lots of triangles last season were not worried. We'd rather have games than not. If we were national div 3 at 1st w/e we would have avoided it. Unless someone else drops out. Best compromise & trying to keep comparable pairings & strength & keeps that individual match going a lot...
