Re: Junior OtB event - April 15th: Simultaneous game and analysis with IM Adam Taylor
Already circulated in Watford area, Wadih, and something tells me that not everyone can go for a break at the same time - the infrastructure just won't stand it - so there are going to be plenty of families still around. I don't know, however, how strong the appetites are for this type of event.

Re: Cheating in chess
I've been a member for a year and a week, and I've played 3400... That's a lot, fingers crossed you see a good improvement in your play when otb chess is back then. I doubt it's done much for that apart from helping me learn to negotiate some hokey opening lines I probably won't ever see OTB! But a...

Re: Remembering BH Wood MSc FCS OBE (13-vii-1909 04-iv-1989)
While aware of his reputation as a demanding employer I have to say that, as a contributor to CHESS during the 1960s, I always found BH very easy to get on with - but, of course, I was freelance and not an employee. We also met in the British championship in 1965 in an entertaining game where I know...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
I suspect that you can forget about Charlie arranging anything in Malta. This was 5 hours ago on FB: "After careful consideration of all that Malta and Gozo has to offer, in comparison with living in England, I have decided to return to England as I am missing the weather, the excessive taxes on ta...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
If he's resolved his differences with the local Malta federation, perhaps the Sniper will pop up with something. We've not heard from the Sniper since the end of January. I believe he was building extra wings on Troll Prison to welcome new inmates. It was getting a bit crowded. I suspect that you c...

Re: Laws of Chess - changes
NB: King and bishop are not able to give checkmate when an opponent has king and rook. (in contrast to king and knight.) The amusing one is king and bishop versus king and bishop. If they're same-coloured bishops, over-stepping the time control results in a draw. If they're opposite-coloured bishop...

Re: £10,000 Scottish Junior Tournament
then presumably it would be open to an aggrieved party, if deprived of a prize to which he or she felt rightfully entitled, to sue for breach of contract. In England the Small Claims Court route might be used. It's happened. The organisers of a tournament accepted the entry of a previously graded p...

Re: £10,000 Scottish Junior Tournament
It's an eye-catching event and, naturally, I wish them well. But it does seem to me that the organisers might be on uncertain ground if, in the event they decide to withhold prizes - and the largest is a not insignificant £1,500 - on the grounds of alleged computer assistance, sandbagging or whateve...

Roger Well done! I assume this is the first outdoor event submitted for rating. Are there any examples of outdoor events having been submitted for grading in recent years? No idea. Given good weather and a reasonably benign playing environment, rapidplay games in particular shouldn't be difficult t...

Re: March 29
With English weather, good luck is a 'must' so I'm pleased to be able to report that today's event was successful and I've just uploaded the results of the rated games onto the ECF rating database. [In passing, I can highly recommend the League Management System].

Re: Cheating in chess
FIDE Fair Play Commission upon reviewing all the data submitted by FPP will decide, whether the case shall be referred to the Ethics and Disciplinary Commission for further sanctions. I'm suggested that whether or not FIDE refers it, the player should do so. The damage is done, so she should act im...
