Re: A couple of games with the French

Hopefully I'm still managing to play OK! In the second game, where you lost on time, you have at least two reasonable ideas to seek a draw. [SetUp "1"] [FEN "4r3/p7/1p3k2/2p2P1p/P1Pp1K1P/1P4R1/8/8 b - - 3 47"] You could play Re3 with the idea of an immediate liquidation to a drawn King and pawn. Ki...

Re: Attracting new players to the game; who is responsible?

A quote from http://londonchessconference.com/ Most attendees accepted that a distinction must be made between scholastic chess that is oriented towards school curricula and delivered by regular teachers who have been trained on chess didactics and how to integrate chess with the school curriculum ...

Re: Attracting new players to the game; who is responsible?

It depends on what age you are trying to attract; I presuming all these players are total newcomers, and not current players moving to an area looking for a club who already have an idea on what is expected Therefore you break it down into two areas 1) Juniors : having the correct structures in plac...

Re: 2017/2018 Season

3Cs pulled out two seasons previously (I think), and certainly not the following season. Without wishing to downplay their very real difficulties with all the southern venues, did the fact that they had just been relegated also play a part, as it probably did with NWE in 2009? Thanks for clearing t...

Re: 2017/2018 Season

North West Eagles seem to have been around for a long time. What happened to them? I understand - though I'm not wholly sure - that NWE folded because (some?) players lost appetite for long-distance road journeys. Thereafter, with reduced squad numbers, organisation became tiresome. Spirit of Attic...

Re: FIDE Offer to Federations to purchase clocks at a highy reduced rate

You could argue that the perceived current monopoly/domination of DGT is purely down to the lack of quality of the alternatives DGT have developed (and continuing to develop) a whole suite of equipment to transmit live games; I suspect the alternative digital clocks providers haven't invested in thi...

Re: FIDE Offer to Federations to purchase clocks at a highy reduced rate

I a competetive match & tournaments I cannot remember when the clock used wasn't a DGT model; I think possibly it was in Malaga in 2010 when I used another model and this was so awful an experience you can see why DGT has become so widely used (I have used other models as well and they are just as c...

Re: European Club Cup 8-14 October, Antalya

If you decide where you go on holiday on your political views you limit yourself quite a lot; Spain reaction to Catalonia would then change my mind Here in Turkey the staff are vary friendly and the event is organised brilliantly, I have witnessed nothing to say Turkey is a great place to have a hol...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

Is the problem with University chess the cyclical nature of the societies with players normally only around for a few years Oxford & Cambridge are better designed to cope with this due to the varsity matches Historically Manchester University was very active in the Manchester league, but once they l...

Re: Chess.com Isle Of Man Tournament 23 Sep to 1 Oct 2017

Why does Hou Yifan not like playing female opponents ? Has she ever said this; the original issue was she believed the pairings were being manipulated for her to play female only players, this wasn't the case as we have been told, but you cannot deduce that she doesn't like playing female opponents...

Re: County Championship Finals

David, After struggling reading you post, here a couple of points 1) Who ever mentioned Manchester not entering a team because they can't get captains; it is more due to the lack of top players willing to put up with the travelling; also travelling to the Midlands counties isn't just for your 1 hour...
