Re: Public liability insurance
For the first time I am being asked for Public Liability Insurance by the venue ( a university ) for Preston Chess congress. Probably someone in the bureaucracy ticking a box. They haven't specified what level they require ( I'm am reluctant to ask ). I know that the ECF have a policy that costs £10...

Re: A thought about a tournament organization utility
One of the things I've noticed while trying to find players for the Jessie Gilbert International is that there seems to be no systematic way of doing so. You can advertise on forums and Facebook and other such stuff, but it's a bit hit-and-miss. What I'm thinking is this: how about a site where peo...

Re: League Management Software
The question to be asked of all such systems is as to how the transmission of grading data via the local grader to the ECF works and what would streamline it, where it to be done monthly. I know that one problem can be the absence of grading codes for new players. You have to insist on the presence...

Re: League Management Software
I'm impressed by the work done to create the above systems, but do any of them provide the facility to see all of a division's results in detail 'in stream' on the same page as the Notts website currently does (http://www.nottschess.org/2014_15/d1.html)? I find it very irritating to have to click o...

Re: ECF Director wants to scrap Clarke grading system
The other thought I had is that the world standard "tournament -results" software is also capable of running team competitions and presumably exporting results. Is that some software package / web service ? Do you have a URL ? If leagues wanted to use League Management Software, I would have though...

Re: Fixtures program for League
I have built a fixture generator into my web based league management system (which you are welcome to try at your own risk) http://sc.popmalc.org.uk/ This means I don't need to type the dates in manually once the fixtures are generated. It allows you to specify constraints such as certain teams not ...

Re: Chess Limericks
There once was a forum for chess
Where the poetry did not impress
I think it is plain
We should stick to the game
And why the ECF is a mess

Re: Tactics practice
I saw the follow up after g5 because I knew there was something to find. But I don't know if I would find it during a game. Do I spend 5 to 10 minutes trying to make it work, and then if it doesn't work I lose on time later?
