Re: Under Statement?

Do you know, there might be no better statement of the ethical history of English chess than some guy trying to pretend that Ray Keene is being picked on. Really, how laughable. Albeit laughable without being funny. Actually, Justin, if you investigated the ethical history of English chess rather t...

Re: Under Statement?

Absolute nonsense, Roger, you don't just omit a glaring conflict of interest for that reason. The point here is that there's here no conflict of interest - just a promotional 'plug' for a relative. You may not like it, and I'm not too fond of it myself, but promotional 'plugs' happen all the time. ...

March 29

Weather permitting, Watford Juniors [part of Watford Chess Club] will be holding a smallish OTB event, "Chess in the Park", locally tomorrow relying on paragraph 103 of HMG's "Covid-19 Response - Spring 2021" publication which reads "103. All children will be able to access any outdoor childcare and...

Re: Under Statement?

Absolute nonsense, Roger, you don't just omit a glaring conflict of interest for that reason. Sorry, but no, Justin. If Richard is indeed a "leading chess historian", and I make no judgment on that, then it's not unacceptable. Whether inclusion of the word "brother-in-law" would have been better jo...

Re: Under Statement?

I am indebted to leading chess historian Richard Eales Is he married to your sister, Ray, you don't mention it here Well, yes, of course he is - and it's reasonable to assume [as I think we both do] that Richard would otherwise have been less likely to be mentioned. But, unless you consider that Ra...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

Not sure about a DBS check but for a PVG a basic check, which shows unspent convictions and conditional cautions a standard check, which shows spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings an enhanced check, which shows the same as a standard check plus any information held...

There could be child protection issues with one adult in a room with 14 young children and otherwise unsupervised.
I'm confused, isn't that what teachers do all the time?
Yes, and they run that risk all the time.

Re: Events Director OTB chess

Yes, the Articles allow the Board to fill board vacancies and create new directorships but this, at least as I understand it, is for exceptional circumstances. Really it's the job of Council - one of its main jobs - to approve director roles and appoint directors. Council is due to meet in a month'...

How does this new role integrate with the pre-existing Director of Home Chess remit?

What does this leave for the Director of Home Chess?
That's exactly the type of issue which I expected to be covered - see earlier - under "the finer details of Shohreh's new role".

Re: Events Director OTB chess

It's also fair to say that "managing ECF over-the-board events" doesn't provide much insight, given that ECF-managed over-the-board events aren't that frequent, I think there's more than you might think if the outsourced ones are taken into account. There's the British Championship Congress, Nation...

Re: Events Director OTB chess

In that vein - what ECF over the board events? What will the role do that the ECF in normal times isn't doing already? Or is it just a repackaging of existing functions? Two (or to the pedants three) very reasonable questions. If the answers have not become evident by the time of the ECF Council Me...

The good news is that the title application has now been passed on to FIDE. Efficient work by the IRO, Dave Clayton!
Peter Lee, British champion in 1965 and subsequently one of England's top bridge players, has also been awarded the FM title.

Re: British Championship Congress 2021

Don't worry I am sure the ECF will find some why in 2022 of saying its unsafe I think we are in danger of losing a whole generation of young players this decision is farcical . Most of us cant wait o get back to playing OTB and socialising with long lost friends . Nearly everyone will have had two ...
