New membership requirements for FIDe rated events

I should probably play in a lower section but I am thinking of playing in the FIDE rated Open section of the Leek congress. (Lower sections are not FIDE rated.) I am SCO registered. The entry form may have been printed before the final details of the membership scheme were known or just badly worded...

Re: Best books by / about Karpov

Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions and especially to Nick B for the chesspublishing thread - I did look there before posting but for some reason didn't find the thread.

I've got Timman's Power chess with Pieces so I've ordered a copy of The Art of Chess Analysis as well

Re: Best books by / about Karpov

Thanks for all the suggestions.

/edit I'd forgotten about Karolyi's books. /edit

I've got Kasparov's volume on Korchnoi and Karpov although I've read more of the part on Korchnoi than the part on Karpov.

Given this I've ordered a copy of Karolyi's Endgame Virtuoso book rather than his Best Games.

Best books by / about Karpov

Hi.

I was showing a friend my chess book collection yesterday and I realised I have no books specifically by / about Karpov.

Can anyone recommend what they think are the best books by / about Karpov?

Re: Bizarre oversight

Although it was a bizarre oversight it could also be viewed as a lack of chess knowledge. I think anyone who was familiar with Reti-Tartakower,Friendly Game, Vienna 1910 would have spotted the bishop check. (For anyone who isn't familiar with the game it went 1. P-K4 P-QB3 2. P-Q4 P-Q4 3. N-QB3 PxP ...

Re: Help with Word / Microsoft Office

I think the problem was that you need to know that the tick is in wingdings. Otherwise there are too many fonts to look through.

Once you know where to look there are lots of ways of getting there.

Re: Membership year vs grading year

Rather than have a 14 months for the price of 12 offer every year wouldn't it be easier to bring the financial year and the membership year in line with the grading year particularly if the financial year is being changed anyway?

Re: Membership year vs grading year

True.

All good reasons for becoming an ECF member as early as possible in the membership year.

Re: Membership year vs grading year

It doesn't make any difference as far as I can see whether someone who only plays September to May joins in September but doesn't use his membership from the following June to August or joins in June but doesn't use his membership until September. Under the new system it also doesn't matter when in...

Re: Membership year vs grading year

Must be a new record for ignoring the thread title and re-hashing - for the hundredth time - the funding argument. The thread is about how county organisations respond to the funding argument. In general they are finding that the reduction in league fees is less than the individual membership cost....

Help with Word / Microsoft Office

Someone on here must know how to do this.

I am currently completing a job application.

Where do I find or what is the character code for a tick?

I have tried putting a cross but it doesn't look right.

What do you do?

Thanks
