4NCL 2024-24 Division Three Knights

Play in this Division starts this weekend at Peterborough with Round One on 09 November and Round Two the following day. This thread is opened to cover progress in this Division. It will be interesting to compare the strengths of the Knights with the Bishops who begin on Nov 23rd-24th.

Four teams with 4/4; followed by four with 2/4 and the last four on 0/4. Whether this is a precursor for positions at the end of the season we shall have to see. It will be interesting to compare the strength of teams in this Division with those in Division Three Bishops who play on Nov 23rd-24th.

Knights are slightly stronger :-

Average ratings Rd 1 Bishops 1970 Knights 2005
Rd 6 Bishops 1992 Knights 2027

However when things like FIDE or ECF ratings used or that Bishops have a team (Cambridge University on 1/16 currently) who are rated substantially lower than anything in Knights, there probably isn't much in it.

Sometimes you have to force it to update the display on your computer by hitting Function Key 5. You should then see Sussex Martlets on 16 points.

Thanks, Roger. I was trying to see the table on my android phone which I assume doesn't have Function Key 5. However, seeking an equivalent , I then discovered one of the many things I didn't know about phone use: clicking the three dots top right brings up icons at the top of the screen. One of them, a circular arrow pointing clockwise, even I recognised as 'refresh'. That did the trick.

The link above gives an updated table - Sussex Martlets 1 with 16/16 have already played their main rivals and look a certainty for promotion. At the foot of the table Coventry have yet to trouble the scorers.

A short final update on the Knights. Sussex Martlets 1 sailed serenely to the title with maximum points 22/22 followed by ToBeDecided with 20/22. Obviously the latter side lost just the one match. At the foot of the table Coventry finished with 0/22 with MK Phoenix the other relegated side on 4/22.

Division Three Bishops was a dogfight for both the promotion and relegation places right until the final games of Round 11 which looks in marked contrast to the Knights.

Finally ToBeDecided might actually decide on a name for their debut in Division Two - or is that hoping too much?

Oxford 2 won all 3 matches over the final weekend to pull clear of the relegation zone. A very creditable achievement.
