Division 4 South - 2019-20

Post by Roger Lancaster » Sat Aug 24, 2019 10:46 am

Watford Chess Club entered the 4NCL in 2017-18 and followed up with a second team last year. If there's anyone out there in the Herts/Bucks/Beds/NWLondon area who is interested in joining a local club with a view to playing in 4NCL, please get in touch - you can PM me. We'd be particularly (but not exclusively) interested in ECF160+ players to reinforce our first team and give it a chance of escaping from Division 4

[Watford club membership splits approximately 40% adult, 60% junior, so we're receptive to approaches irrespective of age].

And there I was, thinking that teams had to enter by 27 September. No need to rush to meet this deadline in future years?

I thought that too, I've no idea how this works.

Perhaps Oxford 5 have agreed to be the "C Arbiter" team. In other words, they only play if there would otherwise be an odd number, thus avoiding triangular matches where possible.

Perhaps, but that's not the issue for me. I can't speak for others but our season begins in September. That makes September an already busy month - AGM, appointment of match captains, etc - and in our case the local league started 30 September and the first J4NCL was a week later, both of which needed advance preparation. At the same time, we're being asked to enter 4NCL teams [and, sometimes, that means reaching a decision between N and N+1 teams which means doing a careful check on available team members] by 27 September, even though the first round isn't until November. Obviously that's not impossible as almost all of us manage it but it does put a strain on resources - if the Oxford example indicates that it's an unnecessary strain, perhaps the question could be revisited.

Only 31 teams out of 34 are included in the published draw. Either two teams aren't competing, in which case the need for a triangular match disappears and this may or may not affect the other pairings or just one team isn't competing but one pairing is inadvertently omitted from the published draw. No reply yet to my email so it's guesswork at present although I imagine we'll learn soon enough.

Yes that is nice. Let's hope not a single default on any board over the weekend. That's not too much is it?
War and Piece with the up float.
