Largest disparities between actual & converted FIDE ratings?

Post by John Upham » Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:55 am

Would anyone like to provide the top fifty (say) disparities between players who have an actual FIDE rating and their converted from ECF rating?

This could make for interesting reading! I am attempting to sort the board orders for the AMCA 4NCL teams and am struggling to deal with this issue.

I like to put the players in order of playing strength but the new ECF ratings (if converted) do not allow me to do this in many cases.

Conversely, there are juniors who have stupidly low FIDE ratings and their ECF rating might actually be nearer the truth!

Hi John

The 4NCL have not published fixtures yet which is upsetting.

Say I have a Guy who is

1800 FIDE but 170 ECF, what do I put his grade at, whats the 4ncl rule, they change them so bloody much i forget

The 4NCL rule is that FIDE ratings, where they exist, take precedence. So the player in question would count as 1800.

Were he unrated, he would presumably count as (170*8)+650, or 2010.

I think this should be looked at as ECF grades can often be far more representative than FIDE ratings for junior players. I estimate that it will take a year or two before Brandon Clarke's rating catches up with his playing strength.
