4NCL On-Line Season 3

Post by Neil Graham » Thu Jan 07, 2021 9:59 am

Entries closed (according to the 4NCL Website) at midnight 06/01/2021 and a list has been published showing entries at 06.27 today.

There has been an e-mail stating that late entries are accepted with a 50% surcharge (£15 to £22.50). According to the list several top squads have forgotten to enter - perhaps next time a swift relegation to Division Six might encourage them to take their responsibilities more seriously? :) As it is one suspects that the organisers are chasing up these recalcitrant clubs to see if they are in fact going to compete.

Agreed. But a list that doesn't include Gonzaga, West is Best, Wood Green or ChessPlus.

Impressive list of teams, pity about a couple of those though. Not surprised at all about West is Best I'm afraid.

We ran out of people willing to be captain. Such is life.

Seems to have settled at 252 teams, plus 184 in Junior 4NCL

Lots of opportunities for people to play online chess, then, and a success story; most won't be bothered about the 4 clubs mentioned

The assumptions made in this thread may be premature. I entered several teams before Wednesday's deadline, and have acknowledgement of same, but those teams are still coloured white rather than green on the 4NCL website. I imagine others are in the same position.

The website page you are talking about is not up to date; on the other hand the link given by Mick above has been updated on a daily basis as entries have come in. The last update on there is 09 January at 19.33 and entries have remained steady at 252 for some time - so, for example, Watford Juniors are not shown as entered on the referenced page but are clearly entered on the updated link. There is no sign of the teams I've mentioned on the link.

I had been under the impression that the closing date for entries was last week; it now appears to be next week

So what we're saying is that 430 or so teams rush around like idiots ensuring that they have got their entries in on time after a number of e-mails telling us the closing date for entries is 6th January at midnight. Then four days later the closing date is arbitrarily changed to 14th January without a whisper.
I will be extremely interested to see how many teams take advantage of this (current entries at 14.16 today 252 in 4NCL and 186 Junior 4NCL).

All of those emails said:
Late entries may be accepted with a 50% surcharge at the 4NCL’s discretion.

I am perfectly aware of that as my opening to the thread states. However this is nothing to do with "late entries" - this suggests that the actual closing date has been moved which means we could all have relaxed for nine days before sending in our entries. Presumably "late entries" will be accepted after 14/01/2021 unless the goal posts are moved again.

This assumes there were no "late entries" after 19.28 yesterday till midnight and, bearing in mind what has been said previously in this thread, that the doors are now closed. Should 259 be the final figure we are left, according to my calculations, that of the 40 teams shown as relegated in the spreadsheet dated 06/01/2021 each one will keep their places in their respective divisions and none of the 40 will be relegated.
