4NCL Rules 2021 - 22

Rules have been published.

Contrary to what the 4NCL suggested the rules might be some time ago, Division 3 teams will have something to play for other than avoiding relegation. The winner of each of Divisions 3 North, Central and South gets promoted to Division 2. Against that, worst case, all Division 3 teams other than the winner and runner up in the affected section would be relegated to Division 4 for the 2022 - 23 season if every relegated Division 2 team went down to the same Division 3 section.

In practice, there should be plenty of "promotion" spots available in Div 3 North & Central, and I would guess somewhere around 6 or 7 in Div 3 South.

The board order rule has increased to 100 points.

*Edit* Each Div 1 or 2 team that fails to enter this season will be one less team relegated and therefore one more promotion place in a Div 3 League also.

If I've understood it correctly, the thirty two teams in divisions 1 and 2 in March 2020 are invited to take part in a Swiss to determine qualifiers for all play all divisions of 12 in the future. Teams not making the cut at season's end will drop into their choice of a division 3. But what if drop outs leave an odd number? Triangular matches or find a team willing to be promoted?

See Rule 1.4.

Can a player who has played as a wildcard for one team, subsequently play for another team in the same season if he does not then register with the team he played for?

No, or at least not another club. So a player could play for teams within a squad eg Wood Green 1, 2 or 3.

"6.4 A wildcard is not required to be a member of the ECF, but English players must take out ECF Gold or Platinum membership before playing at any subsequent weekends. With this exception, a player will become fully registered after the weekend at which the player appears as a wildcard."

Thanks Lawrence, to the part you put in bold, I had added "if he plays again"

I think that he becomes registered for the team after playing as a wildcard so will appear on that team's squad list the next time it is updated.

Between teams on the same match points, how are teams ranked for pairing?

It doesn't really answer your question but the relevant rule says:

7 Organisation of the divisions

7.1

"All Divisions will be played as Swiss tournaments with pairings based on pairing guidelines as determined and published by the Chief Arbiter which may be amended from time to time if deemed in the best interests of the League. If there is an odd number of teams playing in a round, a triangular pairing will be used."

Thanks, I shall ask the arbiter.

Hopefully all captains are in time to comply with this request: "All players for the first weekend must be registered by close of play on
Thursday 11 November."
