Organisation must be a total nightmare just now.

Presuming the levels of absences don't entirely improve, I am intrigued about what you'd do with relegation/promotion with so many teams out. The competition is likely perfectly valid/worth running but it doesn't relate very strongly to either the aborted season before, or what you'd expect to see in 2022/3.
(Other leagues too of course!).

There is still a week to go; I'll give some thoughts once final entries are known.

The numbers look much healthier after the last update. https://www.4ncl.co.uk/data/2122/runners_riders.htm

Getting better, yes :)

Div 3N does seem to be looking especially thin at the moment - as of now it looks like only 1 team (Euwe) registered? Manchester/Bradford do make up about half of the division, so there's a chance of it getting better quite quickly.
(I've not heard anything from Jorvik, so logically presume dead and/or resting.).

Not sure what the minimum viable size is.

With all the multi team/division squads I guess the lower divisions are logically at risk. Although there's a few multi squad teams that should yield teams for 3 central/South.

Quite impressive given that, unless I am missing something, Covid measures have still not been announced, so team captains cannot know who will be willing to play.

Should this discussion not be in some more relevant thread?

I know of at least six teams in the Central division, including one of mine. That's from four clubs but hopefully there are more that I don't know about.

Whilst I've had an amazingly high level of interest from players wanting to play in November a few are subject to not having to wear a mask or at least we will speak again if it becomes necessary.

I presume Covid measures will be similar to the 4ncl congresses.

We can all presume things, but I am not going to block out a weekend, or free it up, on the basis of a presumption that may be false.

You are free to do as you like Nick :)

Unfortunately all we can do is presume, due to the very uncertain nature of a global pandemic.

Unless something dramatic changes, is there any reason to believe that the covid precautions the 4ncl have been following will suddenly change?

I think the very fact that there is a gap where you would expect this information to be might suggest that a change could be under consideration. But we are of course guessing, with only a few weeks to go .

..well we can all presume

perhaps they are prudently waiting to see if the situation changes before announcing anything, as has been the pattern since the first plans were announced.

If I have understood the rules correctly, the 32 teams previously in divisions 1 and 2 will be entitled to fight for 12 places in division 1 and 9 places in division 2. The balance of places being awarded to the three winners of the division 3 competitions. That would make the minimum number 22, although it could go lower with more promotion places on offer.

I would think the central division 3 is viable, not least because with venues at Leamington and Hinckley, some previous southern teams or players may be tempted.

Alternatively, the 4NCL could follow rule 1.4, which covers this eventuality.

Spirit of Atticus will enter one team only. That team will play in Div 3N. We have too few players currently who are willing to play; and even fewer who are willing to travel far. So we have no choice but to pass up a place in the Div 1/2 scramble, and return to where we started over a decade ago
