I'm told it was 8 isn't enough, 16 definitely is, so may be anyone's guess where the cut-off would be between the two numbers

Re: Div 3N season 2021/22
Well, historically we've had 16+ but 3 Central has skimmed off a few teams.
Its a long way to go to get up to 16 though. Manchester 1 look near certain to be coming down to replace Spirit, might also get NE1. So about stable.
So you're going to need about 8 teams forming due to players coming back next September. I think the player base is likely just about large enough to eventually do that, but I would be rather surprised to get it back immediately & organised next season. Covid really is lingering on rather, and our player base isn't young up here.
12 teams best guess next season? Then we see. Understandable if the hotel people are feeling a bit burnt after the Covid years and don't have the patience to wait. I guess most of the teams would disband rather than move over to 3 central.

It is best to plan on their not being enough teams, and then it is a question of where the hotels are and whether they'll travel to the Midlands, albeit the north side hopefully
A combined central and north would at least give new teams and players to compete with; when Div. 3N started and we merged with the other Div 3 for weekends 4 and 5 I enjoyed it

Yes, that bit was nice Especially with my playing in Manchester, Yorkshire and Stockport! The recent 3N's have been full of very familiar faces.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 9:40 amA combined central and north would at least give new teams and players to compete with; when Div. 3N started and we merged with the other Div 3 for weekends 4 and 5 I enjoyed it
I wonder where they could put it if they wanted to move 3C slightly North? With the Pennines in the way there isn't very much sensibly N of Leamington (which looks OK, but a long trek.). 3C looks viable by itself anyway of course.

Nottingham, Derby or Leicester areas perhaps.MartinCarpenter wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 11:02 amI wonder where they could put it if they wanted to move 3C slightly North? In the past, the 4NCL have used Hinckley, not so far south of Leicester and South Normanton, a bit north of Nottingham.

Cannock, Lichfield, Wolverhampton, Tamworth, Walsall, Stafford, Burton-on-Trent plus those mentioned by Roger & Nick
Going back to Crewe I think is out as De Vere said no

Re: Div 3N season 2021/22
I suppose the issue with going further North is that the 4 Welsh teams and 4 Oxford teams (and maybe others) may then consider 3 South better and leave 3 Central lacking numbers.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 11:22 amNottingham, Derby or Leicester areas perhaps.

With the resulting scenario of a massive Div 3 South and the Northern teams simply playing in the midlandsAlex Bullen wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:02 pmI suppose the issue with going further North is that the 4 Welsh teams and 4 Oxford teams (and maybe others) may then consider 3 South better and leave 3 Central lacking numbers.

That would be the logical result in many ways The massive 3S is presumably the thing they most want to avoid.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:10 pmWith the resulting scenario of a massive Div 3 South and the Northern teams simply playing in the midlandsAlex Bullen wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:02 pmI suppose the issue with going further North is that the 4 Welsh teams and 4 Oxford teams (and maybe others) may then consider 3 South better and leave 3 Central lacking numbers.

Central would be bigger not smaller if it gained the 8 Northern teamsAlex Bullen wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:02 pmI suppose the issue with going further North is that the 4 Welsh teams and 4 Oxford teams (and maybe others) may then consider 3 South better and leave 3 Central lacking numbers.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 11:22 amNottingham, Derby or Leicester areas perhaps.

Re: Div 3N season 2021/22
That will be avoided because next season because Division 3S will have 12 teams in it, as will Division 3C, unless retrospective changes are made to this season's rules.MartinCarpenter wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:18 pmThe massive 3S is presumably the thing they most want to avoid.
The difficulty with discontinuing a Division 3 is how to allocate existing teams to what's left. Who gets a Division 3 place and who gets relegated to Division 4? Should Division 3 become a Swiss, or the previous 16 teams system, so there are more places available?

Finding a hotel with enough conference is space is difficult and limits options. Not enough bedrooms was another issue.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 7:35 pmWhy?MartinCarpenter wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 3:18 pmThe massive 3S is presumably the thing they most want to avoid.

The problem with 3N on the pther hand seems to be one of insufficient bookings to give the hotels enough turnover.
