There has been no update since 01 September and I wondered whether any extra teams were prospective Division Four entrants. I understood that there was going to be advertising to bring the number of teams up to the maximum of 80 but possibly I've missed this.

I don't know about Division Four but I did receive an e-mail from the new Chief Arbiter Thomas Evans on 29th September regarding possible pairing formats for the all-play-all divisions. Captains have until the end of this week to submit feedback. It may be that he aims to finalise those pairings before there is an update on the swiss.

CSC/KIngston intend to field a third team, which will play in Div 4. I hope I'm not breaking any embargo by announcing that.

There is no embargo on this (AFAIK).

There are about six vacancies in Division Four and although the closing date was a few weeks ago, I understand that any team that wishes to play in this Division will be accepted to fill these slots - so please contact the 4NCL if interested.

The two venues concerned are Telford and Warwick so within easy travelling distance of the West Midlands.

"tobedecided" seem to be mostly a Welsh team. Some names look familiar from "West is Best".

An e-mail from another captain has prompted me to post a reminder to other captains of the cancellation policy for room block bookings with the relevant line in bold:

"UK CHESS EVENT

BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS

Your booking is not confirmed until we have your payment details and you have
received our invoice.

If you are paying by Credit or Debit Card we will need these details to secure
your booking.

Payment is not taken until the first day of the event.

You do NOT pay the hotel for your accommodation.

Individual cancellations are accepted without penalty up to 7 days prior to the start of the event.

Block blockings held can release no more than 10% without penalty up to 7 days prior to the event.

Teams to provide players names 7 days prior to the event, name changes are possible up to the day before arrival.

After this date you will be charged 100%.

To avoid this, we will always do our best to re-sell your booking and you can name change without charge.

It is important that you check your invoice as soon as you receive it and report any issues immediately"

I suspect if you want to be considered for a 4NCL team then you will need more games under you belt so you can provide the evidence of your strength, most organizers would see 1 game in 15 years and decide that isn't a risk worth taking, now if your 1840 rating was over say 30 games then their might be a possibility to find a team

His advert on the 4NCL site states online strength around 2100. Current OTB strength about 2000.

Fair enough, any conscientious captain (I think I was) will ask for evidence, and I assume would give the advice go an play more games before we would consider you

I normally say online 2100 equates to 1800-1900 OTB; hell I am 2400 online and 2100 OTB at the moment

A congress or two would help Mark. Scarborough is on this weekend: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/event-calendar/

Must admit that the time you appeared at Holmfirth, you looked about 1500-1600ish but you have been training a lot since, according to your posts. I would find an open event and enter the fray.

Guys remember I did plays HUNDREDS of online games between 2008 and now...

But I honestly do know how much work I have to do if I want to go back to serious otb chess... we'll see what happens...
