Hopefully
I love sleep, I need 8 hours a day and about 10 at night - Bill Hicks
I would die happy if I beat Wood Green in the Eastman Cup final - Richmond LL captain.

I would have thought this was sensible. If you have a waiting list of people who want rooms, then it makes sense from both the hotel's point of view and the players' to stay there. If the hotel makes more money this way, then I don't think that's a problem, to be honest. The extra money was paid by people over-booking, rather than the people who actually need them.

It is legal to sell the same room twice? Once from the pre-booking fine and then from a an actual room hire.

Yes.
It will probably help compensate the hotel for those rooms left vacant through a flood of late cancellations. As their policy allows you to cancel up to midday of the day of arrival this is probably quite common.

So, if you know you will be stung from a fee then there is no incentive to cancel? You might as well not bother and then the room will remain empty.

Perhaps I am confused?

You can cancel up to midday on the previous day without being charged 100%, surely?

Once a group booking has been made then rooms from that booking can only be cancelled without penalty 14 days before the weekend. You are permitted last minute cancellation from the group upto the Thursday before the weekend. After that you are stuffed so to speak.

Not quite 100% true, this is the exception

Captains who block book 10 rooms or more have the right to cancel one room without penalty so long as this is done by the Thursday before the weekend.

This reminds me of a candid camera sketch where the guy rents a room at a guest house but then puts his own 'to let' sign up and hires it out to a member of the public - the landlady is going beserk at him for it, he he.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Hm - looks like the live games are down at the moment, unless it's my computer again.

They didn't start working after the power cut. The day's Division One fixtures are now on the site:
