As the new topics on the upper divisions have already encouraged several posts, I'm opening this in preparation for Division Three South.

Re: Division Three South 2016-17
This is Pool A with the first round pairings
31 Brown Jack 1 - - - Surbiton
32 The Rookies - - - Wessex
33 Wood Green MM 1 - - - Rhyfelwyr Essyllwg
34 Poisoned Pawns 1 - - - MK Phoenix 1
and Pool B
35 Hackney - - - Anglian Avengers 2
36 Shropshire 1 - - - Cambridge University 2
37 Leeds University Old Boys - - - Sussex Martlets 2
38 Iceni 1 - - - Fermented Sharks
I suspect we'll have to await pairings and results before attempting to predict likely promotion and demotion candidates.

Sussex Martlets well out-performed their ratings. Against Midland Monarchs, teams will have to decide who will face the IM. FCA Solutions opted for Stewart Reuben.Roger de Coverly wrote:I suspect we'll have to await pairings and results before attempting to predict likely promotion and demotion candidates.
Whilst not quite managing to repeat last season's performance against Ashfield of an all drawn match, Wessex won on top board against Brown Jack with a marginal rating advantage and held the rest. Last season someone asked as to how it was that Wessex managed so many drawn games despite the players having a diversity of styles, none of them particularly drawish. Perhaps it's the move rate encouraging deeper thinking, I hadn't played 40 in 2 and the rest of the game in 1 ( or rather its incremental equivalent) since the May final weekend.

In pool A, despite no team being able to do better over the first four rounds than 4-2, Wood Green MM, Wessex and Poisoned Pawn have pulled away from the other 5.
