I understand - though I'm not wholly sure - that NWE folded because (some?) players lost appetite for long-distance road journeys. Thereafter, with reduced squad numbers, organisation became tiresome. Spirit of Atticus eventually emerged in that market gap, though with a very different back-story and limited continuous history/personnel.

Yes, though they must understandably have been put out by their experience in their last season, 2008/9. They lost their first match in the first weekend when four or five of their players defaulted due to problems on the motorway on the long journey to Sunningdale, and under the rules at the time, that didn't just mean they lost that match heavily; teams with five defaults over the season also lost matchpoints. And that was too much for them realistically to recover from.

I believe that was the reason, 3Cs also pull out the following season for the same reason when 3 weekend were located in sunningdale and wokefield

3Cs pulled out two seasons previously (I think), and certainly not the following season.

Without wishing to downplay their very real difficulties with all the southern venues, did the fact that they had just been relegated also play a part, as it probably did with NWE in 2009?

... but not to be confused with the completely different BCM team that played from the 2012/13 season until half way through the 2015/16 season.

Thanks. I think you mean this link?

Do those familiar with this think this is a complete list of name changes and mergers (well, the obvious ones).

Olimpbase doesn't seem to have been updated for the 4NCL beyond the 2014-15 season.
It's a shame it seems to have been a one off produced project, and therefore not maintained. Also that the individual stats only cover first division games. Basically from a selfish perspective because I think then I would hold the record for all time appearances ;)

If one ignores personnel, the (the original) Midland monarchs-Blackthorne Russia have been there since 1994/5, except of course that metamorphosis included a takeover.

Andrew Ledger was about the only constant in the Woodcock/McFarland, Cooper and Ledger versions of Midland Monarchs.

Thanks for clearing that up; and no being relegated wasn't a factor (we recently have been relegated from the A Division and didn't withdraw), we realised that the vast majority of the squad didn't like playing 3 weekends in the south, therefore couldn't guarantee raising a squad (we try and make sure our squad contains actual club members); we returned once it reduced to the current split

Should we be curious/concerned that there is still no registration list for Cambridge on the website? Ideally, they would have sent one, and its absence would be due to technical errors on the site. But if they haven't, then as far as I can see, they would have only until tomorrow in which to do it, if they are to field full teams for the first weekend.

Steve Connor (webmaster) is currently on holiday this week. That may have bearing on the matter

That has nothing to do with it at all.

He maintains 4ncl.co.uk and the running of the tournament is on 4nclresults.co.uk. Steve puts links to the latter on 4ncl.co.uk, which is updated by the arbiters and the registration secretary. Presumably this was deliberate, to prevent exactly the type of problem you thought there might have been.

I thought the deadline for registering lists of players was 13th October and that the deadline of the 2nd November was simply to amend the list. Reading the rule again, it does seem that every team could bombard Matt et al with their full lists today although I can't help but think that this would not be overly helpful to their organisation of the event!

I gather that a list of Cambridge University registrations has arrived in an e-mail.

Every squad could indeed bombard Matt with their full list today, but this hasn't been a problem before that I'm aware of. I think this episode has ensured the rule will be introduced for 2018/19.
