Not in the same class as the Blackpool Conference, but I played in the Birmingham Rapidplay, Sunday 15th March. Sutton Coldfield's Henrik Stepanyan won the Open.

I well remember many players awkwardly bump elbows at the start of a game only to forgetfully shake hands at the end.

The congress website says: The date of the next event will be notified when this Covid is under control and hopefully will take place at the The Imperial Hotel Blackpool.

In Manchester, we're launching the second edition of our online individual, currently holding our first online congress, the second edition of our online league is ongoing, we won the Open and u1825 online MCCU county championships, as well as the online u1825 challengers ECF county championships (which also saw Cumbria and Cheshire & N Wales take part)

We're also undertaking our 2nd survey of MCF clubs to ascertain what they will be willing and able to do, both OTB and online, for 2021/22

Lots of info on the website

Merseyside seem busy online too

Do you have any information about Dave Clayton's Leyland August Bank Holiday Congresses?

Hi Paul. I've checked a few websites and nothing has been posted. Last year's Leyland Chess Congress was held online.
I'm guessing they are leaving it as late as possible due to the rise of the Indian Variant in Lancashire.

I'm afraid there is still no news about next year's Blackpool Congress. On the website it still says TBA under Future Events.

There was an announcement at Scarborough that Blackpool will be going ahead - they were waiting to see how Scarborough went but everything was fine.

Excellent news, if confirmed. Am hoping to play there in what would be the first time in a decade.

I haven't played there since 2007 and before that was 1998. Both in the Winter Gardens,

There was briefly a rumour in 2019 that the 2020 British was going there.
