Chipping Sodbury Rapidplay, Saturday 17th October

The Chipping Sodbury Rapidplay took place on Saturday 17th October. This twice yearly tournament is normally quite popular, if only for the excellent buffet halfway through (included in the entry fee), but this time numbers were well down. The usual 3 sections were cut to two, the lower one consisting of just 8 players, being played as an all-play-all with one round missing.

In section 1 (Open) David Buckley of Bath won with 6/6 (£40), followed by Paul Helbig (Bath) and Joey Stewart (Warwick University) (£10 each) on 4. The first grading prize (166-180) went to James Holland (Maidenhead) (£10) with 3.5, and the under 166 was shared between Alan Jones (Reading) and EM White (South Bristol) 3 (£5 each).

The Section 2 prize money stayed wholly within the Bristol League. 1st prize was shared by Alan Papier (Clifton), Harvey Atkinson (Horfield) and Duncan Macarthur (Keynsham) (£20 each), all on 4/6. The grading prize went to 13 year old Tom Thorpe (Pete's Potentials) 3/6 (£10) on 3, and the junior prize (£5) to Matthew Wilson of Downend.2/6
