The Riviera International Conference Centre – a thank you.

The Torbay League wish to thank the Riviera International Conference Centre (RICC) for hosting the 43rd. Torbay Chess Congress.
The Rosetor Suite venue was highly suitable and very popular with all the players. The Congress is a Grand Prix event and its continuing success would be ensured if hosted at the RICC in future years.
The RICC management did an excellent job in providing excellent facilities and assistance thus ensuring this Congress’s success. The RICC staff, that were working during the Congress, were very helpful and pleasant and are to be congratulated.

Many thanks for posting this, Ben.

I note that my long-standing clubmate Michael Franklin shared first place in the Open at the age of 78. Does anyone know what the British record is for the oldest player to win an Open event?

I think Frank Parr won the Torbay Open in 1995, but as Frank was born in December 1918 (according to wikipedia), he would have been a mere 76 at the time. I know I lost to him in round 4 when we both had 3/3. If my memory is correct, he drew with Franklin in the last round to reach 4.5.
