Re: Stockport Rapidplay Sunday 6 March 2011
Having played at Stockport myself, unless I had a very lucid dream, it took place on the 6th of FEBRUARY, not March.

Re: Stockport Rapidplay Sunday 6th Feb 2011
Yes, you are indeed correct...I think Mick had another important Rapidplay date in mind...Namely the forthcoming Manchester Rapidplay - see http://www.manchesterchessfederation.co.uk/page2.html and please note in your diaries & email fellow chess contacts. Its being held at the Manchesater City Stadium, which has proved a very popular venue.
But the Stockport event, run by Stockport Chess Club, under the capable hands of Peter Taylor and his team, was indeed a very good days chessing, with a very good turnout in all sections.
Great to see so many juniors present, and maybe more of these can be encouraged to join our local league clubs.
And some hot competition in this years open section meant a fiercely contested event....and some frantic time scrambles as vital points were fought over.
I suffered from a touch of clock jitters and agreed at least two draws where more should have been possible....but some excellent battles.
Would have been nice to see the book stall again...and indeed the Manchester Evening News (who didnt make it). Some photos in our local Press showing the 180ish competitors (of all ages and playing strengths), would have been a great advert for chess......

Re: Stockport Rapidplay Sunday 6 February 2011
The website mentioned that Andy Reeve was the highest Stockport League player with 3.5, but Alex Longson and Robert Shaw both also got 3.5, both of whom are Stockport registered (Marple & High Peak), and if going on tie-break (Sum of Progressive) both finished ahead of Andy
