Re: Richmond Rapidplays - 14 August 2016
Could someone correct the title of this thread? It should be referring to the Richmond Rapidplay that took place on 14 August 2016. It is the following one that is taking place on 9 October 2016. Paul, as you started this thread you might be able to correct this yourself without the need for a moderator to do that.
While I am being pedantic, the announcement for the 14 August 2016 Richmond Rapidplay referred to "a fabulous resumption on the 12th of June - will continue on Sunday 12th June". That mistake was so obvious that it wouldn't have confused anyone, but maybe try not to get dates mixed up in publicity material?
I'll be there for the third one on 9 October. Hopefully it will be another enjoyable day's chess.

Re: Richmond Rapidplays - 14 August 2016
John Nunn won the Open mostly with great ease, drawing only with Graeme Buckley in round 5. That game, though, was an act of extreme escapology, as he was totally tied up for the best part of an hour, making a mistake in the opening, after which he had to defend doggedly until the very end.
The U160 was very closely contested, with three players on 4 sharing first place. One should draw attention to Nishchal Thatte, though, one of Richmond Junior's stars. Only eight years of age, with a rapidplay grade of 113, he had played in the U120 in June, but now turned up in the U160 to be one of its joint winners. Class - and a player to watch for the future. Attention must also go to the winner of the U135 Grading Prize, Logan Fear. Again only nine years of age, and a rapidplay grade of 124, he still managed to score better than 50%.
The U120 was won by Alex Brett, with apparent ease, one might think, given his score of 5.5. However, his last round game against 11 year old Lucy Buckley, was the last to finish, and could have went either way. However, Alex kept his nerve better in the final minutes. Better luck, Lucy, next time!
