The 1st British Bangla Chess Association (BBCA) International Rapidplay Chess Tournament was held at London Enterprise Academy on 4th December, 2016. Executive Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, opened the day-long tournament by playing a friendly game with BBCA Chief Adviser, Abu Musa Hasan.

More than 100 participants from about 20 nationalities including two Grand Masters and one women International Master fought a tough battle to clinch the attractive prizes.

BBCA are extremely grateful to the sponsors, who are equally delighted by seeing a successful lively chess tournament at the heart of Bangla Town in London's East End. We are very much encouraged by the sponsors who have already pledged to support BBCA to organise another chess tournament.

This first tournament was not ECF graded nor FIDE rated.

That's an interesting find from the past (1998-2001).

The player doesn't have a current ECF grade nor FIDE rating and I think the organisers accepted his entry as an ungraded player.
None of the other competitors raised any questions about his playing strength nor were there any restrictions on the amount of prize money that an ungraded player could win.

There will most likely be another event next year and I would expect some of the entry conditions might change.

Refreshments throughout the day and a hot lunchtime meal were provided by the organisers at no charge to players. It was a very friendly and enjoyable event.
