Noting that Nakamura has recently won the World 960 Championship
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5626 I wonder if there is such a thing as the English 960 Championship or even British 960 Championship?
Would this be a welcome development?
Perhaps Mike Surtees could become the inaugural champion?

I would like it if there was such a thing. It would certainly be more interesting than watching many moves of theory at the beginning of every game (with some notable exceptions)

Maybe it's just me, but I am afraid Chess 960 does nothing for me at all
And this stuff about "reams of opening theory" in regular chess is over-rated IMO - opening novelties at a relatively early stage are being unearthed even now (even in ultra-analysed systems like the Najdorf Sicilian and Semi-Slav)
Remember, "normal" chess was supposed to be "played out" in the 1920s, then the 1950s, and then........
It will never happen (not in any of our lifetimes anyway) and amen to that

Personally I quite like watching lots of moves of theory. It builds the tension - who's going to surprise who? What have they found?
