Is it reasonable to say that the 2631 beat himself? The engine suggests that the idea of the pawn sacrifice with f5 was OK, as was the Nxe5 follow up, but Be4 needed to be played immediately to regain the piece.LawrenceCooper wrote:Andrew Muir has just beaten a 2631 with black: http://live.chess.is/2013/rvk13/r2b/tfd.htm
If you mean 19. Be4, then no. That fails to 19... Qxe4 20.dxe4 Nf3+. The blunder was 17. Nxe5. White should have played 17. Ng5+ or 17. Nh4 when the computer reckons he either recovers the pawn or has more than enough compensation for it.Roger de Coverly wrote:Is it reasonable to say that the 2631 beat himself? ... and the loser of this game has now gone on to win the tournament with 8/10, although, not surprisingly, he has the worst tie break score of the three joint winners. (Gawain Jones was the best English result with 7.5/10 and in a tie for 4th place.)LawrenceCooper wrote:Andrew Muir has just beaten a 2631 with black: http://live.chess.is/2013/rvk13/r2b/tfd.htm
