Aagaard had a painful loss to Conquest yesterday so I think he will be on his toes today!?

Throw-away comment deleted.
I hear that GM Aagaard is struggling to regain his form and wish him success.

Re: 4NCL Weekend 2-4 May 2015
How about these two emails from a Mr "Fred Olly", someone who as far as I can see doesn't play in the 4NCL, or indeed play any form of serious chess anywhere in the UK:
andDear Mr Truran
I was surprised and disappointed to see that for the penultimate round of this year’s 4NCL, it was decided to omit the clash between the top two sides in the championship, instead featuring a number of games of little interest, or relevance, featuring lower graded players, save for the obsession of featuring Wood Green yet again.
I would respectfully suggest that whoever in your team makes these kind of nonsensical decisions shouldn’t apply for a job with Sky TV scheduling their live sports coverage, as it is the most crass decision I think you could have made if you genuinely are looking to best promote chess to an online, worldwide audience. I’m still scratching my head looking at the featured games and cannot fathom what the rationale was, with the exception of Barbican 1 vs. Cheddleton.
A very disappointing end to what has otherwise been excellent coverage throughout the season. I dread to think what you’ve got planned for the final round - maybe some bottom of the table division 2 demotion pool clashes?
Fred Olly
Makes all the effort worthwhile really. You haven't got a clue
I find it incredible that after featuring championship games on the live boards all year, you suddenly decide in round 10 to omit the 1st vs. 2nd game in the championship between Guildford and White Rose to show second rate games instead. Who decided that it would be better to drop this top of the table clash in favour of Wood Green yet again (they are a shadow of their former selfs) plus a bunch on non-entties from the lower division?
You are absolutely clueless and have no idea about how best to promote chess to an online audience.
Did you not think that featuring the top two sides in the penultimate round of fixtures might be more of interest to an online audience than the nonsense that you have decided to go with?
Well at least I can get on with something else this afternoon and not waste my time with your amateur tournament.

They're under way!
Wood Green v. Cambridge U looks very interesting - I'll be keeping an eye on that match.

Sabrina Chevannes (on bd. 3 for CU) has her work "cut out" today - after wins over Snape & Zeidler - she's playing GM J. Shaw!
In the same match, Jovanka Houska - also black - on bd.6 has played a more conventional Advanced Caro-Kann than Sabrina.
Sarah Hegarty, also playing Black, completes an academic female triumvirate of girl power!!!

"Gawain Jones goes crunching in with 10. Nxf7"
Thanks for pointing that out, Carl.
Another Caro-Kann - played by IM Lorin d'Costa - and only on move 10!

After some considerable thought d'Costa has played 10... Rxf7 - accepting the speculative(?) sac!

11. Bxg6 Nf8 12. Bxf7 Kxf7, so far, Carl.
It all began with - 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nd7 5. Ng5 Ngf6 6. Bd3 g6 7. N1f3 Bg7 8. O-O O-O 9. c3 h6 10. Nxf7 Rxf7 11.Bxg6...
Old favourite, GM Jon Speelman (WG) has himself played the C-K against Daniel Bisby (CU).
It reached the same position as Jones,G-d'Costa,L with 5.Ng5 then Jon went 5... Nb6 - I expect he will show the others how playing the C-K should be done.
That's 5.NG5.
