An unlikely end to the David Howell round 1 game

Come on everyone, predict the winner now.

(I'll say McShane)

I'll go for a Howell-Jones final with Luke flagging due to jet-lagging.

Round 3 underway:

Howell-Ansell
Trent-Hawkins
McShane-Milliet
Mortazavi-Jones
Summerscale-Emms

I suspect they all have 2/2 but as the site isn't showing anything beyond round 1 pairings some guess work is required.

Wins in round 3 for Howell, Hawkins, McShane, Jones, Emms & presumably Eggleston.

Round 4:

Jones-Howell, Hawkins-Eggleston, Emms-McShane.

Great to have the live games, with so many top players there.

McShane moving smoothly to 5/5, do danger so far.

I don't think an arbiter is needed to confirm Jones (5) v McShane (5) in the last round. Mark Hebden is the only player on 4.5. Hawkins & Howell amongst the chasing pack on 4.

Jones and McShane drew, Hebden lost to Hawkins in 21 moves.

There are apparently only two prizes, £1000 and £500, which presumably means that the classy players with 5/6 come away with nothing.

That would also explain Gawain's rather safe choice of opening as White in the last round.

Partly, although he also played it against David in round 4. I suspect he wanted a safe game with hopefully slight winning chances and little/no risk.

Final scores:

Jones & McShane 5.5/6

Eggleston, Ghasi, Hawkins, Howell (maybe some others...) 5.

I was out yesterday, is there a way to play through the live games from earlier rounds then the last?
