Good luck to Alan. Finishing with two wins would be good, and might be enough for a norm?? Not sure about that. I've also been looking at Ravi Haria's norm prospects. Despite the low rating of his opponent yesterday and today, he is performing at over 2450 (just) and has played three GMs and an IM.

Maybe not? Does the low rating of his round 9 opponent mean even a win won't keep his performance above 2450? Or is it 1.45a: "At least 50% of the opponents shall be title-holders". That might be it. There were a number of titled players in Ravi's score group. Being paired against any one of them would have been enough for a norm chance, I think, but it looks like the pairings went against him. Of the 19 pairings between players on 5.5/8, only two pairings lacked a titled player.

If he wins in round 9, and is paired against a titled player with a high-enough rating in round 10, will he then get a norm chance?

From the official website:

"Chances for IM and GM-norms in the 9th round

By: Palle Skov

Jan-Christian Schröder has already made a GM-norm and Martin Haubro an IM-norm.

The following players also have the chance to make a norm:

IM Axel Smith, the nordic master from Sweden, makes a GM-norm if he wins. He made a GM-norm in the Nordic championship.

IM Kristian Stuvik Holm, Norway. GM-norm if he wins the 9th round.

Olav Eivind Risting, Norway: IM-norm if he plays a draw."

Ravi is going to be an FM (assuming he applies for the title) after this tournament, right? If so, congrats!

Top three boards have all made quick draws - the prize structure makes that rational behaviour. The organisers really need to fix that.

Chess-results has been showing the game as 1-0 for sometime but whilst moves keep appearing I'm not taking that as gospel. There is a move transmission delay in place though.

Great result. Many congratulations to Ravi, who has also gained a large number of rating points. Is this his first norm? At times like this, I look for a list of current ENG players with norms that have not yet been cashed in. I would use the FIDE site, but that never seems to be up-to-date:

https://ratings.fide.com/title_norms.ph ... ountry=ENG
https://ratings.fide.com/title_norms.ph ... ountry=ENG

To be fairer, it seems to just take a long time to be updated. And it does seem more up-to-date now.

Eggleston's GM norm is up there (from November 2014). Bisby's second IM norm is not there yet (from March 2015).
