Gawain took a right stuffing from Ravi there. All the youngsters appear to be going well so far (rd 4)

Ravi drew with an IM yesterday and plays GM Aagard today (noon UK time I think)

A relatively short game but not without interest. Marcus Harvey beat an IM rated 2469 despite white being +70 five moves from the end

How on earth did that happen, then?

According to the chessbomb engine 31. .. Qxa2 was a mistake. White spotted the first tactic with Be4,

but missed the follow up

(edit) It was Qf8, in case anyone was wondering. It's not easy to see, but amusingly Marcus's finish uses almost the same idea. (/edit)

I remember Mikkel Antonsen, when he was already an IM at 19, from the one time I was ever sent abroad as a (sort of) junior, to play an under -21 event in Denmark (I finished 2= with him). In 2015, he outplayed both Ravi (though was not obviously winning) and Marcus in the middlegame but, maybe it's the curse of being over 40, doesn't seem to be finishing the games too well. (Or maybe it's just about time trouble, and maybe it's a lifetime problem for him, since he drew a probably winning position against me for that reason back in 1992).

Perhaps Ravi should in fact have played on against Aagaard today, though you understand him being happy to preserve his unbeaten record. Marcus v Timman should be interesting; are any other English players doing well out there?
