Today I noticed an elderly issue of CHESS Monthly with a photograph of Ghislaine Maxwell on the front cover.

Question: What was the occasion and when was it?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Probably the occasion of the South vs North match to launch Pergamon's acquisition of "Chess". GM (great initials) was the guest of honour that opened it. Probably in the 80s.

Well - yes. It almost inspires me to look at all of the people I've met through chess and work out how many of them were criminals. I'm not sure I have time, and I would have to separate the list into people who have been locked up, and those who should have been, but of course I live in hope.

We should also note that GM has launched an appeal against conviction.

Robert Maxwell always loved chess, sent his daughter along to the launch at the Barbican when things moved south from Sutton Coldfield to Headington in Oxford. New larger colourful format, Lamford editing, for sale in the High Street. (Decades before Epstein, treat yourself to some backnumbers!)

On Sunday, March 20th 1988 at the Barbican Centre was the relaunch of CHESS magazine, now owned by the Bouncing Czech.

Headington Hall, Oxford was then the headquarters of Pergamon Press Ltd., owners of Pergamon CHESS, in turn owned by Captain Bob.

It currently houses Oxford Brookes School of Law.

Sounds like you got off lightly if the only amount you lost to Maxwell was £50 - I think you'd need to take some scuba diving lessons if you ever want to track him down to get your hands on him now.
